Strange Matter Coffee

Strange Matter (at the union) has become routine for me and so many of my friends. All of the staff members are friendly all day, every day, and some of them even learned our names! The service is super fast, even during busy hours, and everything on their menu is delicious. From the regular donuts to the seasonal and gluten free options, every pastry tastes incredible (At this point I’ve tried almost every donut and I have enjoyed every single one). The drinks are also amazing and consistent. I can’t help but keep going back <3

I love this location in the Union, it's really fast and convenient! Even when there's a long line it moves way faster than Starbucks. Also there gluten free pastries are sooooo good!

Strange Matter at the MSU union is one of the best things to happen there. The staff is so friendly and amazing. They quickly remember names and orders. It feels like I’m being greeted by family every time I go. Special shout outs to Eli and Dee who are always so kind and helpful.

I frequent strange matter at the msu union for myself as well as for work events. The vegan and gluten free options are delicious and a no brainer when you have a wide variety of people to feed.

Strange Matter at the MSU Union is one of my favorite places to go on campus. The staff are all the sweetest, most amazing baristas I have met. The coffee and teas and other drinks are amazing!!! Plus the gluten free donuts are so so good! I highly recommend this place to both students, staff, and community members.

What a great spot! Good coffee and even better treats. I had a hard time choosing a donut (a lot are vegan btw) but am so happy with my choice. Barista was very friendly and I love the option to round up for charity.

Absolutely in love with Strange Matter! It’s such an adorable little coffee shop with delicious coffee, kind staff, and to die for donuts. I absolutely LOVE that strange matter offers vegan donuts that are as delicious as they are pretty. It’s so hard to find a cafe with vegan options!
The manager, Eli, is a gem and goes out of his way to make sure that everyone feels right at home. MSU students, don’t miss out on this one!!

Absolutely love Strange Matter! Their cold brew is one of my faves, along with their donut options. A lot of variety and always the most friendly service. Special shout out to Eli for always providing the most welcoming atmosphere!

I would give them 6 stars if I could. There donuts are so delicious, you wouldn’t even know they’re vegan! And by the time your done ordering your coffee with all their fun flavors and twists, it’s already ready! The staff is full of unique, beautiful, and talented people, and they are always lovely to me when I visit. My only complaint would be that they should be open more often!

I love strange matter at the msu union. I had never had a vegan donut before, but they are the most amazing donuts ever!! I go in to the store multiple times a week and it is great every time. Elise is a wonderful employee that always is super nice and works efficiently! Go to strange matter!!!

I love Strange Matter!! I go every single day before class because not only do they have the best coffee and baked goods, but I am always greeted by the wonderful staff who have taken the time to learn my name and order and are always so kind to me. It truly has become apart of my routine and the highlight of my day to get my coffee and talk to Eli and the rest of the lovely staff! Don't know what I would do without them.

I really love Strange Matter at the MSU Union. The staff are very kind, helpful, and friendly. They are also attentive, as well -- taking the time to learn your name and order. I have catered here a couple times and my orders are always correct and on time. I would definitely recommend to anyone who loves coffee/matcha and a sweet treat :)

As a student at MSU, Strange Matter has been such a nice place to come to throughout the week. I regularly make a stop at the Union to grab coffee there and the atmosphere has been so welcoming. I’ve turned into a regular so at this point some of the staff knows my name and vice versa. Alongside how great the staff is, the coffee and pastries are amazing! 10/10

Eli and his team have transformed this space in the Union. There is a delicious selection of treats that accomodates many dietary restrictions. All donuts are vegan, and there are multiple gluten-free flavors.

Strange Matter donuts were also a hit at the MSU Honors College's graduation reception last semester. Delivery was prompt and efficient.

Great coffee drinks and donuts. Was a long line around noon but it moved very fast and service was very quick and friendly.

I appreciated the kind and helpful recommendations from Braeden in choosing what kind of coffee to get, and the GF maple/walnut donut, which were both delicious. The space inside the shop was nice, and I was able to get some work done. In my hour or so of being there, they were extremely busy and the staff did a great job working together and serving customers well. My only suggestion would be to change the music to fit the vibe of the shop (not 80's pop).

I absolutely love Strange Matter, and am so excited about their new location in the MSU Student Union. It is the perfect place to stop in on your way to class or various downtown events. The staff are friendly and inclusive and their bakery items are amazing. My favorite coffee orders are either an iced nola with oat milk or a cortado, which are perfectly crafted every time. I love how their bakery items are allergen friendly, trying to order both a gluten free and vegan doughnut is often a hard ask but SM usually has at least 6 flavors on hand! By far my favorite coffee shop ever :)

Strange Matter has been a weekend tradition for my family for years. Their Vegan donuts and coffee are the best in town. We love all the staff and have a great experience every time we go. If you haven’t been yet… GO!! ❤❤

Eli and the rest of the staff are super accommodating and efficient with catering orders. Payment and communication are easy. I encourage MSU student organizations to use Strange Matter in the MSU Union for all of their coffee/doughnut needs!

If I could give 6/5 stars, I would. Not only are the drinks absolutely divine, but each staff member exudes such pleasant energy, making every visit a pleasure. Despite the high volume of orders Strange Matter receives, like a well-oiled machine, they have an efficient system in place. Going to this coffee shop is almost always the highlight of my day.

Genuinely probably the best coffee place I have been to, and that's saying a lot as I go to a lot of coffee shops and am also an ex-barista. When I found out Strange Matter was coming to the MSU Union I was so excited to try them and they do NOT disappoint.

First of all the drinks are delicious. I've tried pretty much every latte and they are all very yummy. Literally the elixir of life. The chai actually tastes like chai and not like the concentrate that so many coffee places use. They have decaf espresso which is great if you can't do caffeine but still want a latte, and they have plenty of alternative milk options.

Second of all, the donuts are actually incredible. They are literally gourmet donuts. I don't know who's baking them but whoever's responsible is gracing my tastebuds. My favorite is the lavender lemon donut but they are all genuinely so good. Plus, depending on the time of year seasonal donuts are in the rotation. There are so many creative donuts I've seen.

Lastly, the atmosphere and the service there is great. All of the employees are so friendly and the vibes in there are always positive and welcoming. The line can be 20 people deep but the baristas there are serving drinks at lightning speed with maximum efficiency. One would say they are the backbone of modern society. Also, I have to add, as a student at MSU I really appreciate that SM is bringing positive energy to a space that was the site of a horrible event last semester. I feel that they are helping to bring students back into a place that is meant to be a safe space for students to congregate.

I cannot recommend this place enough. If Strange Matter Coffee has 100 fans, I'm one of them. If Strange Matter Coffee has 10 fans I'm one of them. If Strange Matter Coffee has 1 fan, I'm that fan, and if Strange Matter Coffee has 0 fans, then I'm dead.
