Sugar Island

One of my all time favorite places to visit. Last time we were in, my son said he wanted to live there. Not only do they have delicious drinks and treats, they have the most amazing book and gift selection. The people are so sweet and wonderful to talk to, you feel like you're visiting family when you go in.

My sister and I were SO EXCITED to find a cafe with literary-themed lattes! it was a must-try while we were on vacation with family. They enjoyed it too! great coffee, great pastries and sweets, and we loved seeing all the eclectic stuff they had in their shop.

Loved this cute shop. Coffee, books, and old things. Heaven for this reader. Blind date with a book was fun. It ended up being a book I never would have picked up judging by the cover and title, but the plot sounds interesting, and I look forward to reading it. "Don't judge a book by its cover" certainly applies. ;-)

This place is absolutely wonderfull, my cousin and I came while on vacation and we wish we never had to leave. The aesthetic here is absolutely fantastic, they have classic books lining all the walls and a whole corner upstairs devoted to natural beauty products. We shared the biggest and tastiest cininon roll I have ever had. The coffee here is delicious and if you have the chance you must try this place. We wish that we did not have to wait a whole year before coming back.

My all time favorite bakery! I've kept up with this bakery since they were located in Old Books in downtown Wilmington. The owners are friendly and lovely people! I especially love their classic brownies, jam bars, and key lime pie! They operate as a used bookstore too and I have found some of my favorite, most interesting books here! It's a must when you're in Surf City!

My family and I have been coming to Topsail Island for our yearly vacation for the past 5 or 6 years. Sugar Island is one of the places we have to visit while we are there. We love everything about this place! The books, the treasures in every corner, the drink selection, and of course the yummy sweet treats.

The staff is always friendly and helpful. I met the owners mother last year while she was working the counter and she was so sweet and pleasant to talk to. I highly recommend visiting this shop while you're on the island!

Amazing local find! Terrific coffee, delicious snacks, and lots of other goodies for sale (e.g., jams, ground coffee, toys). Be sure to check out the reading room upstairs...stocked with inexpensive, lightly used second-hand books for sale and more seating than your average Starbucks. Nice retreat for those on or visiting Topsail Island.

Really cute bakery. Surprised by the books available and other knick knacks. Lended to a very relaxed vibe. Chocolate cake was very good, Snickerdoodle Cookies were spectacular, Chocolate Shortbread cookies were amazing, and my parents love the Scones they've bought. (Try the chewy ginger cookies... thank me later) The upstairs area is packed with books on top books in cases organized by genre. There's even a kids area with books, toys, and what not. Though we didn't find much in the way of seating anywhere... though one book after another was a fairly good distraction. Overall, super cool coffee shop and hidden gem of a bakery. Very unique store! They no longer serve alcohol which is fine because they baked goods are so amazing it makes up for it! We got the snicker doodle cookie and a chocolate chip cookie. They were delicious! And then I got the yellow brick road caramel iced latte and it was also very good!!! The book collection was quite large as well as the variety! We enjoyed our time there and it was money well spent! We also got one of their hand made coffee which we haven't had the chance to taste yet but if the taste is as good as the smell it's going to be amazing!

Great store that has secondhand items and used books for sale. Local art, baked goods, fresh eggs, coffee, and similar all of high quality. We go there to peruse and buy cookies!!!

This is probably my favorite place in Surf City. The local treats are amazing (particularly the key lime pie) and their butter beer drink is fantastic. My kids loved the books upstairs. It was great to shop at some place local, as opposed to some of the more tourist-trappy places on the island.
The atmosphere here is top-tier and I want to spend so much time here every time in out at the beach.

Our first visit while vacationing. Best banana bread I've ever eaten, great coffee! Quaint shop with books, art, jewelry and other gifts to choose from. Employees were so friendly. Will definitely go back when in the area.

Incredible lattes, great service and conversation, lots of fun and interesting books (especially in the kid's section upstairs) that brought back fabulous memories. I was excited to pick up some books from my childhood to share with my kiddos.

They have the most fantastic scones and jam bars I’ve ever eaten. So tasty! Cookies and other baked goods are great too. I haven’t tried the coffees but I’m sure they are as good as their other items.

What a lovely surprise! I stopped here on a whim for a coffee and ended up leaving with some baked goods too. Everyone was very kind, the treats are delish, and they use coffee ice cubes in the iced coffee. I wish I’d had more time to experience the rest of the shop, but now I have an excuse to stop in again!

Great little shop. Very very interesting shop, actually. I feel like describing it would ruin the magic of just visiting and experiencing the store for yourself. The only thing I will say is if you see a box of cheddar pigs just buy them. Im on vacation and wont get the chance to pick up a box as they where sold out when I went back for them so I dont want you to make the same mistake.

Sugar Island & Sugar Market are absolutely the best place to shop in Surf City for unique products. The displays are well thought out and the old books are organized in little nooks & grannies. My sister & I loved the coffee, the bakery, the vintage clothes, the fairy village, the one of a kind ceramics and much more. The customer service is a joy!
