Great little ~1mile hike up to a lake. Great for kids, those from lower altitude, or those just short on time. The hike up through the aspen trees is great and crosses a couple of streams. Fall is especially awesome for this short hike. If you're feeling froggy, there are a bunch of additional routes/loops you can add after the lake to extreme your day. Ie, head over to Masontown (2.5 miles total), to Breck (8 miles), up bag some elevation and hike up Mt Royal. Have fun, leash your dog, and uphill has the right-of-way.

Great place to get out and observe the leaves changing color and take in one of the things that make Colorado great!

The Rainbow Lake area is so beautiful! While hiking and walking around here, it was almost impossible to take in all of the beauty; the snow, aspen trees, evergreen trees, birds, and mountains made everything very picturesque.

Gorgeous little lake. The hike up is not only pleasant but easy as well. Great payoff when you reach the top.

Saw our first moose in the lake as soon as we cleared the brim! What an amazing experience! Went back a few days later and saw them again!

I am a native to Colorado... Rainbow Lake has been valuable to me... disregarding the fact that the population increase has annihilated the mountains, as well as the experience of them, I always come back here... and, rely on this place for a memory of my childhood, when camping never included a reservation... or electronics... I come to Rainbow Lake for perspective... knowing that I can rely on the beaver dam... and, the boulder, where numerous snapshots have been taken of my brother and I... I miss my youth when I am here, which is rare...

Very nice spot pretty only a short walk from town. We saw beavers in the lake and a male moose (!) 20m besides the track.
