WONDERFUL yarn shop! Melissa helped me and explained the entire shop layout plus wound some hanks for me. They have a wonderful selection including a ton of hand dyed yarns like Madeline Tosh, Long Dog, Hedgehog, Lazy Cat, Malabrigo and more. I can’t recommend McKinney Knittery enough!

Absolutely a must-visit place for any fiber or fabric artist. I was stunned at how kind the ladies of this store were to my mother-in-law and how beautiful the selection was when I was there.

Five stars are ridiculously inadequate. The selection of yarns and tools is impressive. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. If you are also a quilter, the other half of the shop is devoted to fabrics. I've always been in a bit of a hurry when I've popped in, so I haven't checked out that half.

Parking in downtown McKinney is a challenge. There are numerous free lots, and some walking is required. This last visit, I discovered a parking lot that is almost directly across the street from the shop. Definitely the best option, but I had to circle the block three times before I lucked into a spot. That was better than parking in the lot on the back half of the block, where there were plenty of available spots, but that would have required walking the equivalent of two blocks in this heatwave.

Time for a BIG update. They are no longer in their cozy space on Church St. They moved to 117 W Louisiana St. And then a year or 2 later, they expanded the space some more.

This is an amazing destination shop. It’s in the heart of downtown McKinney. So, when you build up an appetite with all the yarn, fabric and whatnot fondling, you can walk to wide variety of restaurants. Then you can head back to the shop to sit and knit a spell.

Seriously, this shop is your own little bit of magic. The yarn selection is carefully curated. You want some Hedgehog - Ginger has it. What about some Magpie - she has that, too. Spincycle - yes, please. Anyhoo, you get the general idea.

Then she goes and does the same thing on her fabric/dry goods side of the shop, Every time I walk into the shop, I leave happy.

This store is so fun to explore or just to sit and work on your project. The staff is ever so helpful and friendly!
The other patrons I've met while working on a project there are also very nice and enjoy sharing their project information. They also have classes, but I've not taken one yet. They have late night on Thursdays, which is great for people who work during the day.

Super friendly and helpful staff! Came here on a whim and came out with a new hobby. Love that I can stop by when I have questions judgment-free and that they have an area for you to work on projects. It's peaceful here and they even offer classes too.

What can I say. This is my favorite yarn shop. I live a few hours away but this shop feels like home. Ginger and her crew are always very friendly, helpful and attentive. Ginger is great at picking out colors also. Emily is a jewel and a great knitter. If you are in the area you need to stop and take a peek at this shop. The décor has you looking around to see what surprise you see next. The yarn, Ginger carries great yarn, knows what is popular and keeps it stocked. If you want the special stuff this is where you go.

Great selections of yarn, but the best part is the staff!!! The owner and her staff are always willing to help with yarn and pattern selection, but also go the extra mile to offer tips, tricks and encouragement! LOVE this place!!!!

This shop of fabulous for knitters and quilters. We shopped here and then the next day before a wedding I had a wardrobe malfunction and being out of town I didn’t have anything to fix it. They fixed me right up! Huge selection of yarn, fabrics, and anything you need. Yay!!

Wonderfully large amount of yarn and other crafty things one may need or dream about. Love that there is tons of space to wonder and squish all the yarn. And that they have a back area that seems like they may only use for trunk shows which is a plus,to give those indie dyers their own space. Highly recommend.

This is the most wonderful local yarn store! Great selection of yarns and super helpful! Can't wait to go back! Well worth driving over 2 hours to get there, wish I lived closer so I could go more often. Very welcoming atmosphere.

This was our first visit, my husband picked up knitting this year and has been excited to check out some local yarn shops. There was a large choice of yarns to choose, with a wall of fabric and even some stitching floss! Most of the yarn was on the smaller side, but that's perfect for his projects. The employees were all very friendly and helpful. They also wound the hank for us, which was great!

Everyone at McKinney Knittery is so polite and helpful. They always take time to answer questions and make helpful suggestions. The atmosphere is friendly and calming. Just a great place.

I highly recommend this yarn shop! The staff is very attentive, helpful and kind! They carry a wide variety of yarns and are quick to point you in the right direction if you need help. I have done business with them in store and over the phone. They ship orders quickly and know their inventory well. Much better than other yarn shops in the DFW area.

Loved my first visit to McKinney Knittery last Fall! Definitely my preferred yarn shop away from “home” - there’s a well balanced selection of indie dyed and commercial yarns plus a few exclusives I’ve not seen elsewhere. Should I ever decide to quilt/sew, embroider or take classes, this is the place or go - with friendly faces and a welcoming atmosphere
