Freeport Bait & Tackle

Bought a new ranger net from john. He recommended I get the rubberized netting to avoid getting my hooks stuck. Best net ever. Highly recommend. If you need a net, they have a huge selection and great prices.

Freeport B&T is a great brick and mortar shop for saltwater and freshwater tackle. They are knowledgeable and friendly, helping with advice and recommendations for new and experienced fishermen. John has a wide array of tackle that meets budgets at every level. Their in-season hours are very accessible, especially if someone wants to pick up something after traditional working hours. The quality of the bait they sell is top notch, and corresponds with what is needed to catch seasonal fish. They also have frozen bait available. There are a few parking spaces in front of the shop. More space is available behind the shop. Boaters can also access the store by boat in the rear. Boat slips are also available for rent.

As of May 2024, the shop is a weigh station for the Fisherman Magazine’s Dreamboat Challenge. Anglers with catches that qualify can log and record their catch at this bait and tackle.

Freeport Bait and Tackle just a great place to go. John is always super for helpful, knowledgeable and great to deal with. The store pretty much has anything you need for saltwater fishing. Chloe and John’s mom are always full of knowledge and helpful. Fresh bait everyday besides the assortment of tackle. Great place to go for all your fishing needs. If John doesn’t have it, it doesn’t exist.

Freeport bait and tackle is a diamond in the rough. John, his wife Chloe, and John's mother are the sweetest kindest people you will ever meet. They are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They will go above and beyond to help you find what you need. Even when the shop is busy, they will still find time to help you. Their store is always fully stocked with everything you need. Can't say the same for other tackle shops.

Few buddies and I went to Long Island to fish for sharks, first time. The owner helped us register our fishing license all while preparing our rigs and bait. He even threw in extra bait and ultimately we ended the night catching a great shark thanks to this shop.

Amazing bait and tackle shop with lots of great stuff to choose from for any budget!! John (the owner) helped me with crab traps, scoop nets, fluke gear and striped bass trolling gear. They have the best baits around in a couple of self serve ice cream cases right by the front door! Ask and they will show you all the fresh local caught bait and tackle they have on hand, truly an amazing experience at Freeport Bait and Tackle. John even gave me intel on where the fish and crabs are!! I highly recommend you check them out!! 5 stars!!

Hands down the best bait and tackle shop on Long Island! Service is quick yet personal, and they have everything you could ever want to get on a catch. It’s a local, family-owned business that is a staple in the fishing community. I travel pretty far to get here, and it’s worth every minute!

Very friendly staff, and helpful. I showed up as they were closing, instead of turning me away and telling me to come back another day, they opened the door welcomed me in gave excellent advice and help.
