The Family Room

The scooped to order ice cream from tasted like it came straight from the dairy farm. The vanilla was creamy, rich and full of flavor. I would shop at this store just for the ice cream alone.

This quaint little shop is owned by Kim & Corinne Glab, a mother and daughter that curated their shop with locally sourced products with a heavy emphasis on small and women owned businesses.

There were so many cute gift ideas it was hard not to want to buy everything, especially from the food market that was stocked with so many treats.

Every trip to Gaithersburg must include a visit to TFR in Laytonsville! Found a unique gift I have never seen in another shop and will be making a friend smile. TFR owner was so warm and welcoming! Her smile radiates her passion for creating a space filled with acceptance, creativity, laughter, and warmth…just like a family room. Can’t wait for my next visit!

I love this charming place! So many cute things offered, especially seasonal items. Ever-changing merchandise. Great gift shop as well. And the owners are such nice people. A gem of a store in Laytonsville.

Hands down the BEST store of this kind, locally! This mom and daughter duo are simply the best and run and operate a beautiful store and are beautiful inside and out themselves. We need more ppl and businesses just like them! Keep up the great work, ladies! A great place to get gifts for others, treat yourself and take a minute for yourself - its always so calm and relaxing to go there, and to just buy local. The Family Room is such a great place to hang out - great ice cream and such an eclectic collection of gifts and treasures! We LOVE it!

Awesome family owned shop filled with a wide variety of unique items not found in big box stores. You will find that the shopkeepers and associates go above and beyond to make the customers feel like family and assist you with your purchases - whether they be for your home, a gift or a delicious bite to eat. My favorite treats are their banana cream ice cream or a hot raspberry mocha coffee on a cold day! Do not hesitate to check out this “little shop around the corner.”

My husband and I absolutely love this shop! It has the cutest curation of goods with something for everyone in your life. Plus, there’s ice cream and local food and during the summer, an awesome market! Def check it out if you’re in the area or plan a fun trip to check it out.

Such a cute shop with the best, most unique gifts. Stopped in here to shop with my mom and return her milk bottles (recycling the glass bottles is a HUGE plus) and everyone was friendly and warm. Every type of trinket and gift you could think of was tucked away - ended up leaving with a cookbook, fresh brewed coffee, soup mix and a container of Cajun crab dip! Quite a mix, I know…but we walked away with what spoke to us! Love shopping small and local.

My family loves visiting the family room! We can't go without my daughter asking for a bath bomb and for ice cream. It's an always welcoming, family friendly shop around the corner.

This store is amazing. Not only do they have great ice cream, but it's also an unbelievably cute store. It's a great place to buy a gift either for a loved one or just to treat yourself. They also sell ice cream pints, local dairy, and local meat. Really a unique boutique that's well worth the trip to Laytonsville

High praise for The Family Room and its staff. This isn't just a store. TFR fosters a sense of community through sponsored events and support for local small businesses and artisans. Maryland Pride is alive at TFR.

This place is the perfect picture of what a local family business should be. I get my coffee here everyday, and I also get coffee beans to go for home. I also pop in to buy gifts, as I can find something for everyone I know. Local meats and other local groceries are also a plus!

This place is truly a little home-away-from-home! You’re immediately greeted with smiles and hellos and the staff get to know you when you visit. They have so many amazing gifts and gift ideas for any occasion and budget. The coffee is so good that I get a bag at least twice a month! I’m often there once a week as well to pick up local milk, eggs, cheese and greens all from local farms nearby. And their ice cream....wow is it good! They go out of their way to make this community stronger and closer by hosting market weekends where local vendors can come and sell their products. I cannot express how much I love this shop! Go check it out ASAP and be warned you’ll start visiting once a week like me 🤗

I go weekly not just for local goodies like milk, eggs, cheese, and ice cream but also for perusing their gorgeous shelves full of beautiful and unique gifts, many locally made supporting other small businesses. The owners and staff always great you with a warm smile and are a pleasure to work with! Highly recommend as one of my favorite local spots!

An establishment that the whole family can enjoy! The coffee is exceptional and the ice cream is fresh! The Family Room has been my go to place for Birthday and Christmas gift shopping as well. A visit to the Family Room is not just a normal shopping trip, rather, it is a joyous experience. And the staff is always very helpful and friendly!

What a cute place! Well worth the drive from lower Montgomery County (it was exactly 30 minutes in the car from Forest Glen). Adorable gifts, yummy treats, good coffee and nice people! My 3yo enjoyed playing with the assortment of kids' toys and browsing all the wares, and I liked sipping a drink while working on a jigsaw puzzle. We visited on a Saturday when they had the Farm Market, which was more market than farm, but still very fun! There was a decently long wait for the face painter (30+ minutes) but she had tickets so kids didn't have to stand in line. Overall it was a really fun lowkey Saturday morning for our family, and we look forward to returning!

The Family room is a must go to store. It is a one stop shop to buy from so many local vendors that I would never find on my own. The two owners and the rest of the staff are kind and genuine. I have gone there for unique gift ideas and have received great help from the staff.

My favorite part is the Friday night ice cream and car show. Definitely give them a call to see what events they are putting on that month!
