Thompson Ace Hardware

My Weber was on it's last legs and I needed a new one. Lowes and Home Depot had them, and with free delivery, but I wanted to support my locally owned business - and I am glad I did.

The grills were the same price everywhere so that is a wash, but the service and individual care of Thompson Ace can not be beat. There was a delivery charge but I am a senior citizen and would probably have difficulty raw-hiding the old grill from the back and taking the new grill back there. No problem, because when I asked the owner if the delivery guy could help - EVEN THOUGH THAT IS NOT THEIR POLICY - she said "sure".

When he arrived today he gladly helped me and in a very short time I had my new grill and the old one out at the curb.

That kind of service and the fact that, within a few minutes, one can actually always find someone to help you at Thompson Ace is what will keep me shopping there. Big box hardware stores are just not built on customer service or individual attention, but Thompson Ace is.

I'll toast you over the steak I plan to cook on my new grill tonight!

Super polite & helpful. Store is clean and stocked. Found what I needed online and then went in to pick up.
Then, I had an amazing associate help me find the specific screw I needed - the ones I lost during my move across country 🫣

I had been in town for a couple of days and went to their competitors several time, and every time my friend told me “Ace will have it” what we were searching for. Sure enough we got what we were looking for, we were helped by Bob who was so nice and helpful. This made the whole experience even better and made me realize, I should give the smaller family owned stores a try. Especially when they have so kind and helpful people like Bob working for them.

Went to this store in need of some items for the house, was immediately greeted by a young man by the name of Chris. Chris gave me some of the best customer service and help I’ve ever received in my life, this young man knows exactly what he’s talking about. A respectable hard working young man who even told me he’s a student at a local high school, this man is what America needs for the future to strive. I even asked him what the best place to eat was since he knew exactly what he was talking about when I asked about the drill selection. He pointed me to a nearby chili’s where I had the best steak dinner I’ve had in a while. I will 100% be back and look forward to Chris helping me again!

Haven't been in a Ace in a long time and boy have things changed but to the positive. Parking at this location is plentiful as are all of the knowledgeable store workers. Selection of products is very diverse so much so that it's almost impossible to list everything. Store is very clean and well stocked and a joy to walk through. Found the 100 foot hose we needed and can assure you we will return when we need something.

Just stopped in to get a bell transformer. Frank was there and he pointed me to the correct location to get what I needed. It was 10$ cheaper than Lowes, too. Pleasant people, easy in and out, parking close by. It's my kind of place.

On New Year’s Day we decided to hang a new lamp in our entryway. We were missing one screw. The guy at Ace was very helpful and found the exact one I needed. I never would’ve found it on my own.

This is not your typical hardware shop. When you walk in, you feel like you are in a different type of store with handcrafted goods. The staff was helpful in figuring out the right sized screws for a task. After a couple of misses at the box stores, I came here because of their reputation for good advice.

Update as of 9/1/2023.

After posting this review I received a phone call from the owner of this Ace hardware. Not only was he super apologetic for the misunderstanding of his employee at the time I tried to return the paint, he offered me a complete refund of my paint as well as a gift card to compensate me for the error.

I was extremely impressed with the professionalism in which the owner handled this situation and how quickly he reached out to me.

People make mistakes including people's employees.

He was extremely apologetic that I had to voice what happened publicly and did state that he was going to make sure that his employees use this experience as a learning experience as well.

I have changed my rating because I feel like if you're going to make a mistake, at least try to rectify that mistake appropriately. To me that's almost more important than the quality of the service I received the first time. Based on the continuation of my experience with Ace Hardware I would definitely shop there now knowing that if they make a mistake, they will fix it.

Reasons why I will no longer be shopping at Ace Hardware. Particularly the Ace Hardware on San Jose and Old Saint Augustine Road in Mandarin.

My husband was asked by a friend to help repair some drywall. Just a quick patch due to an accident involving a boot through the wall.

We use this Ace Hardware frequently as we prefer to shop at smaller, locally owned stores instead of big box stores. You know we like to support our community. So when we went in there with an actual piece of the painted drywall to get a paint match done we felt like everything would be okay. Understand we know that paint matching is not always perfect but in the past it's been pretty spot on.

Let's start with the first problem. The gentleman who matched the paint not only took forever to do so but in trying to find the base went through multiple cans of Base before he told us that the only base he had that would work for us was a very expensive $32 quart, and let me just further add that we didn't know it was $32 till we got to the counter and it had already been mixed.

Then we went to paint the wall today and discovered that Not only was it off, it was really off! But their receipt says that they had a 30-day return policy and the website said that this even included tinted paint. We figured maybe there was some kind of a formula issue or something and we'd give them the opportunity to fix it.

But we were wrong. Upon returning to the store and speaking with the manager on duty who didn't really want to try to rematch the wall again. Argued with us about the fact that no color matches really ever perfect. He finally rematched it and got what he said was the exact same formula. I should add it took him a while to read the formula and understand if it was even a match so we were not feeling he know what he was looking at. He would not give us a refund because they have no way to "recoup their loss". That's what was more important to them.....their loss....not my customer service experience. I have can guarantee you my husband and I have spent way more than $32 in this store in the years we've been shopping there.

We went to Lowe's paid half the cost and got a new can that is almost exactly the same color. And we were told that if it didn't look right we had 30 days to return it no questions asked.

So I reached out to Ace Hardware corporate to get some assistance and basically was told that each store is independently owned and operated and that even though their website says they have a return policy, stores can decide what their return policy is and if they even want to have one. Translation, nobody is going to honor their return policy.

I for one will no longer be shopping there and I guess I will have to go to that big box retailer further up the road with the blue sign. Maybe this is why Ace Hardware is having problems keeping customers.

I am so very thankful for Thompson Ace Hardware! Not only do you carry products at a great value less than other hardware stores but also you live up to the motto the helpful hardware place! I just gotten off the phone with a cashier named David he was beyond helpful with his phenomenal customer service! Every time I have needed a certain item your store has come through with no questions asked. Every time I walk into the store every three to five feet I am greeted by an associate asking the same question with a smile can we help you? This Ace hardware is the forerunner of all Ace hardware's should be ran! Lowe's and home Depot have a poor quality of customer service this is why I continue to choose Thompson Ace hardware five Star quality customer service! Keep it up it will pay off in the long run. I never thought I'd feel compelled to write a review on a 5 minute stop into a hardware store, but this place was well kept and every employee was extremely kind and helpful. Unlike most places you go into nowadays, everyone seemed like they actually enjoyed working there and helping customers. Thanks Ace!

Great service! We bought a fancy Charcoal but discovered we really didn't know how to use a few features. Went back to store and they were happy to let us ask tons of questions. Ended up buying a few more grilling gadgets but the knowledge was free and super helpful! Definitely will be back when supplies run out! Thanks for the help from our "helpful hardware man"!

Extremely friendly staff! From the minute you walk in the door you're greeted by the cashiers. They ask what you're looking for or what you need help with. They paid someone in that department to either come up and help you or to meet you as you're walking down the aisle. They put "Service" back into customer service!

This is such a nice convenient hardware store! My go to when I don't feel like walking all over a big behemoth store. It has most of your hardware needs and even has paint and some great items for hostess or housewarming gifts!

ACE is the place! When you need odds and ends for one-off bolts and nuts. They sell them as singles and you just put them in a brown paper bag and write what you selected and cash out. They have also been cool with me bring the part missing or needing the screws of unknown size and just test fit on the spot before I bag them. This makes it so you know the hardware is perfect and should only need one trip! Staff has always been super friendly and great help as well!

Wonderful, wonderful place!

I work for a local memory care assisted living. One of our residents loves to garden. Wish of a Lifetime granted her wish to have a garden on wheels. Thompson Ace not only put together a beautiful selection for the garden, but they delivered them to our door. This means so much not only to our community, but to the family of our special lady.
