Penzeys Spices

Penzeys has been my go to spice store since it first opened. If I am not near a Penzeys I order on line. All the other brands of spices will never match Penzeys spices when it comes to quality, taste, and price. I love opening the sample spice jars and inhaling the spices from around the world. Just don't breathe too deeply of the jalapeno ground spice!!!!!! Whew, it cleared up all my sinuses!!!!!

The people there are incredibly nice and helpful. The spices are awesome I would definitely recommend this place to people that like to cook. Also they have a really great sales!!!! High quality seasoning

I was introduced to this spice store by my sister. I love it and mostly buy online. I stop in whenever in the area. Some of my favorites are the seasoning salts, sandwhich sprinkle, justice, vanilla, mural of flavor. I could go on and on. The sales are spectacular!!! If you are a cook or love one, buy Penzy’s.

I've been buying my spices exclusively from penzeys for over a decade. They have a superior product to anything you're going to find at the grocery store. You want basil? What kind? Oregano? You've got a whole selection! Anything you're looking for, they're likely to have it. Great when you want to venture out of your comfort zone and maybe try that recipe that you screenshot from Instagram last year. The staff is always very friendly and knowledgeable and many are accomplished home cooks themselves. Try their sample bags if you're not ready to commit to a whole bottle and check their weekly specials, recipes, and discounts when you sign up for their emails. I don't work for Penzey's (although I wouldn't mind (-: ). I'm just somebody who's passionate about cooking and I love sharing that with others. Go get in the kitchen and break some rules and have some fun!

Fantastic products, place & people!

I would rather support a small-ish business (esp a local brick & mortar that employs real people in our community) whose owners might be more liberal than I am, than buy the big brands at a big retail chain grocer. We cook to spread love; let's shop to spread love locally too :)

As a 1st-time customer looking for a refresh on some spices, I ordered about 10 items online last week to pick up at the Houston store, and when I got a call 15 minutes later, I thought it was a "Sorry, we're out of that" call...but my order was READY! And it was accurate!

Their offering the 1/4c jars is wonderful, as I've let some of the usual 1/2c jars you find at the grocer sit around past their prime (some, like cream of tartar, I use infrequently).

Aside from the spices, I ordered a few of their "hug" coins--they are a perfect little, tangible something the recipient can carry around for a tactile reminder they are loved.

The attentiveness of the staff and the warm welcome are something missing from a lot of stores in this area. I didn't plan on buying anything but the staff was so friendly and knowledgeable that I picked up a few items. They have so many variety of spices, and blends. Ask questions and they will help you find the right one.

I found exactly what I needed! During COVID curvlbside has been important for me as I have many at-risk loved ones. I will say their website needs updating, but the sign on the door was accurate with clear instructions. Call, order, pay on the phone, then she will place it outside for a contactless pick up. Made the most amazing chocolate icing with this.

There is a great atmosphere here and the staff is so helpful and friendly. Be sure to get their deals via email/website! You can sample almost every single item in the store and the prices are very reasonable. My food tastes better thanks to Penzeys!

This is my favorite spice store, everything is very fresh and reasonably priced. The weekly special sales are out-of-this-world good deals. I love that there are jars of all available spices to look at and smell before purchasing! Some of the kindest employees I've come across too!

I no longer buy my spices at the grocery store because making a special trip to Penzy's is worth the effort. I love the quality and range of their spices. Their workers are also friendly. It's also worth joining their email list because they have great specials. This company takes a stand on today's issues, which I support.

This is a really, really great place to buy spices. I have never found a better place. The staff is terrific and more than willing to advise you if need be. Give it a try.

I had no clue how important fresh and quality spices were. The Penzey’s team in the heights is some of the most lovely and warm folks in retail. Visiting the store feels like a hug.

This is the best place in Houston to buy fresh herbs, spices, and other culinary seasoning blends. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The store often provides something for you to try when making a purchase.

Their corporate actually came out and said "if you're a R or conservative, we are not here to service you" !!
I find that rather nasty to be coming from the "tolerant" left!
I will never shop here again, and will send my family, friends, acquaintances, enemies, and random strangers ANYWHERE but to Penzeys. I hope they go broke with their Woke.

I love the variety of spices in here oh, and there is one designed for smelling the rest stay sealed so you can easily tell what you're getting! They usually have deals where when you buy enough they give you something free which you have to love! You can buy them online as well for convenience, but it's really fun and I wouldn't miss the chance just to go in there see the variety, ask questions, and get to smell these beauties for yourself! I went with a group of friends, and every one of us found multiple things that we took home !

Love this store. What i like, besides getting quality spices, are the sizes. You can get your spices in small jars, not used often and large for use all the time. I usually order online so i was very pleased to find a store in Houston. You won't be disappointed.

Love this place, and national owner Bill Penzey's determination to stand up for what is right makes me love it even more. The spices are always excellent, the blends in particular, and the store is a delightful place to visit. I recommend Mural of Flavor as a particularly excellent starting point but you really can't go wrong. And the gift boxes are fabulous! Best tip: Sign up for the catalogue. You'll get recipes, stories, and coupons every month, and you'll remember that there IS good in the world. :)

Amazing selection of seasonings and spices. Great gift boxes, for ready selection and also the build your own gift box was a handy feature to get juuuust what you want. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I've been a few times and it's been busy, but never slammed which is nice. Never felt like I was having to avoid everybody. Good location on 19th with a decent amount of parking in the center. Be prepared to smell all the things!
