The UCSD campus buildings, pedestrian and parking layouts came first.
Target came after to satisfy demand for such shopping needs, can't argue with a decision to pick a central spot for the store in the pedestrian zone.
Neither the Target or college management would be placing parking proximity as a priority when the store went up, or considering to flatten out a new parking area just for this store.

There wasn't a Target on campus when I was a dorm student there back then, 5 stars for giving students more options for their dollar.

Not sure why this location is receiving bad reviews for being hard to find. For students of UCSD, it's not. The map makes it clear it's situated in the middle of campus, and there are regular Target stores nearby for those who want a more typical shopping experience. As for the quality of the store itself, it's good. It has all the necessities (and some extra) and while prices are marked up a bit, they're not ridiculous. It is also surprisingly efficient given the volume of students it serves. Overall, it's a great resource for those living on or near campus.

This Target is meant for UCSD students to be able to access basic necessities on campus, a large portion of us do not have cars and traveling off campus by bus is time consuming and difficult since traveling via the city buses two to four times as long as driving. I really love this Target, it's convenient and accessible with pretty good hours considering everything else on campus closes really early. It is open to the public but there is no parking nearby which is unfortunate for non-students. These bad reviews are honestly unwarranted, the staff are wonderful and the selection is surprisingly good.

Yes this location exists, however it is a very small one at that. Think more convenience gas station sized but still managing to have an electronics and clothing sections as well. It is definitely geared towards students who live on campus who want to grab some light groceries. There is NO general parking for those without campus parking permits, so keep that in mind if you plan on driving here. Staff is always very friendly and willing to help, and they have self-checkout.

A great little Target. This one is quite petite and specialized for the student population on campus, so it carries a smaller selection of student-focused items. It is only accessible by walking on campus, and there is no large dedicated parking lot nearby.

Rating this 5 stars to counter-act the mentally-challenged reviews who are rating Google Maps and not the target itself. Use the Target app to check if they have what you need, park at a school parking lot, and walk there. This isn’t a normal Target, it’s one on the UCSD campus specifically made for UCSD students. Go to a different one if that’s not what you want to do.

The amount of 1 stars on here about this place is ridiculous. Oh it was hard to park near? Oh it’s a small target? What did you expect when it’s located in the middle of UCSD’s campus?!?!? This is a perfect Target that fulfills it’s purpose as a quick and easy stop for essentials for college students. If you’re not already on campus, don’t try driving to this Target because it’s meant for people on campus.

Great little Target on UCSD Campus. If you are just going in to get your Pickup Order, they have a few parking spots in front of Lot P416.

This is a wonderful target, located on campus of UCSD for the students. The staff were super friendly, super helpful, and the store was super clean. It was nice to see a well managed store.

While this Target is open to anyone, it's really a UCSD campus store. It's meant for UCSD visitors, students, faculty and staff. Anyone else will find it really inconvenient.

This Target is meant mostly for campus students and is located near Price Center. Selection of items is plentiful especially considering the main consumer base consists of college students.

I do not recommend driving to this Target, but I love having a target on campus now. While it's not a full Target it's perfect walking distance from my dorm

it's in campus so not ideal if your not in the university, its a small store and mostly for students, good place and provides the necessities, even has a pharmacy
