Amazing place, the staff are super helpful and knowledgeable about the models. They’ll let you test whatever you decide to buy, which is also really nice. Greats place to go to, check it out sometime.

This is a wonderful store for model train enthusiasts, and my 5 year old son absolutely loves visiting there. Nick has been super helpful and helped us with a few minor repairs free of charge. Highly recommend!

This is such a great train store! Lots and lots of inventory for many different gauges. When we were building our layout, we purchased grass, trees, tunnels entrances, etc. Today I noticed how many of the Woodland Scenics figurine sets they have in stock. There were so many amazing choices! And there is a great selection of locomotives and rolling stock.

But......the biggest reason to go is the staff. Nick and his team are so knowledgeable and willing to assist. We've been several times over the years, and they are always willing to share their expertise.

Nick also has someone who repairs locomotives, and the one that we had repaired came back like it was brand new. There are also trains set up in the back of the store.

I highly recommend Nick's trains for train enthusiasts in Raleigh!

Nice store with good selections in several different scales .
I do N scale, and they had a large selection of rolling stock and DC locomotives and accessories. Didn't have much in DCC locomotives.
Very knowledgeable staff.

Visited for the first time today. Huge selection of all scales. Spend a good two hours just browsing and enjoying the store. Left with some rolling stock. Staff was very friendly and always happy to help. I'll be back!

Awesome shop, Great resource for any kind of scale modelling and hobby, not just trains.

Well stocked and organized, everything you'd need from the tools to scratch build, glues, paints, polystyrene sheets & various shapes, terrain props, various model kits and of course the trains themselves.

The staff is a wealth of knowledge, kind and helpful.
I will definitely going to be returning here as my main hobby shop.

I can't believe I've lived in the Raleigh area my entire life and have never been to this place. What a gem! Packed to the gills with cool stuff, from trains to planes and everything in between. Of all the hobby shops I've been to in the area, they have the best selection of balsa stock and the best K&S tubing rack I've ever seen. I'm used to needed a tubing size and either having to settle on a different size or leave empty handed, and they had every size I needed, I think that might be the first time I've walked into a hobby shop and left with every item on my list ticked off, and my hobby isn't even model trains. Cannot wait to go back!

Very friendly and helpful staff. Large selection of N, HO, and O scale both new and new-old stock as well as train control both DC and DCC. Well stocked on Magazines and even gives away old magazines to anyone who might want them. Nick buys train collections and sells used trains and stands by what he sells. Just be sure to have him or one of his guys inspect the used stuff before you take it home, that way they can clean and relube the engine and let you know about any DIY things you will need to do. Been going here for the past 7 years and am glad they are here.

I have visited dozens of model railway stores all over midwest and eastern US: Nick's is one of the best ever seen! Not so much if you are looking for the latest and greatest you can also get online (yes Nick get you that as well). I like his store particularly for the 'old' stuff: series of cars and engines long sold out, used vehicles from collections to complete your own etc. Cars for the kids to play with.
As far as I have seen focus is on N, H0, Lionel and some LGB. Next to rolling stock you get tracks and landscaping as well.

This train shop is a museum quality place to visit. Come in & chat with the owner. You won't be disappointed.

Fantastic location with a massive selection. Store is absolutely packed to the brim with products in all scales. Gentlemen working there are incredibly nice and very knowledgeable. Have helped me work through some model railroading problems many times. Can't recommend enough!

Great shop for trains. Pleasantly surprised to see so much vintage O gauge. Very helpful, i purchased a vintage light tower that they got working for me as well as a part I was missing for a car that I already had. Enjoyed my visit, hope to return soon.

If you’re looking for a hidden gem that offers excellent customer care, incredible products, and awesome value then go to Nick’s trains. Ellen at the counter is not only friendly, she’s personable, a great conversationalist, and highly knowledgeable about the products they sell. She called me IMMEDIATELY when my order arrived and already had it bagged and ready to go for me. Nick is the owner but you’d never know it by how modest and helpful he is around customers. Frank is an absolute delight - he knew where everything was located (which is super important in a hobby shop that specializes in small parts - along with other items) and did not hesitate to explain exactly what I needed. George is also wonderful - so very friendly and definitely passionate about what he does. The store was also well-organized without feeling corporate. As someone who knows absolutely nothing about trains, I went in feeling apprehensive, yet they were able to subtly put my hesitation to ask questions at ease. VERY cool place and highly recommend going - they’ll either have what you need, be able to order it, or know someone who has it. Excellent service. Excellent setting. Excellent people.

What a great place. I'd been here before but it had been a couple of years. Nick is a super nice gentleman that takes the time to help you, answer questions and even call a vendor if he doesn't know the answer. Filled with suggestions, he doesn't care if you are a newbie or a hardcore modeler.

I was looking for HO scale figures, so I Googled "Train stores near me" and Nick's Trains came up. I called them first to see if they had figures, what brands they had, and prices. I spoke to George on the phone and he was very helpful and informative. I stopped by the store and was really impressed with all of the trains, scenery, buildings, lighting options, and figures they had. While browsing, I was able to ask questions and get suggestions. Once again, very helpful at the store. I purchased a few packs of figures, but could have very easily left with a lot more! Now that I know Nick's exists, I'll be stopping in a lot more!
