Fortress of Bashtovë

Another great touristic location in the map - an attractive castle and archeological site, rich in history to those who enjoy it, rich in breathtaking destinations to those who love to walk and bike, and great food to those of us who love to taste special food as well.

Castle of Bashtova is estimated to be built around 15th century. It's location is weird, because it's built in an open field, not on a mountain, which makes you think that it was probably used for training of soldiers. It's only walls surrounding a piece of land, so not much to see, but great spot for a picnic. No coffee shops around. Road to the castle is not very good. Virgin beach only 10mins from the castle (bad road though).

Previously in the Middle Ages, the region of Bashtovë was known as a trade harbor and otherwise centre for the export of grains. The origin of the fortress has been for some time a matter of dispute among historians. The initial fortress was constructed during the time when the region was part of the Venice.However, sources have asserted that the Venetians have built over an existing former structure, which dates back to the 6th century, when the area was under the Byzantine Empire during the reign of Justinian I (Justinian the Great)

So cool, just a castle sitting in a field. Easy to find. There is no entrance fee, you just walk in and explore.

The Fortress of Bashtovë is a medieval quadrangular fortress located close to the outflow of the Shkumbin River into the Adriatic Sea in Central Albania. It is part of the tentative listof Albania in order to qualify for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.

The only castle in coast in all Balkans. With a beautiful place and unique architecture, you must go and see it

Sad it was not allowed to get in on a normal working day, but the castle is nice.

Very interesting place

It is an ancient castle and it was builded on a field near the river and the sea.It is a must to see for who seek history or who wants to see something particular. If you visit it in summer time, you will enjoy the sea too which is 1 km far from there or you may visit it in spring and you'll find it with green vegetables around it

Fantastic location! I don’t know any other way to get there by car but it was worth the visit. A couple people stopped by while we were visiting and a local told us that the location was actually a trade post on the secondary road of the Via Egnatia!

Peaceful and full of grass smell

Quite intact and you can even drive into the centre of it. Some information on the board at the entrance in English. Worth a small detour to visit I'd say.

Beautiful place! Lots of history! Even an albanian movie about the independence of Albania was shot here.

The only field castle ik albania, is beautiful and have a frate nature view around
