Tirana International Airport

5/3/2024 I approached this airport with apprehension due to the negative reviews. I arrived 2.5hrs before my flight. The Ryanair check in counter was already opened and I queued for about five minutes. The staff member was friendly and I was issued with a boarding pass free of charge. The security line moved pretty fast and it was just like at any other airport. The line at passport control moved pretty quickly too, here you must present your boarding pass so it can be stamped and your passport. The airport is modern and clean. The toilets were also clean. Lots of shops to buy food and drinks. Plenty of seating at the gates. Overall it was a good experience.

Nice airport, seems pretty new. Clean and modern toilet facilities. You have to get a paper version of a ticket on which it will say “not a boarding pass”, then once you’re at the airport you have to go to a check in desk (even if you only have one small bag and aren’t checking any luggage in) and they give you a proper paper version of a boarding pass.

The airport has two levels and the duty free at the ground level after you check in and not far from the gate. There is a prayer room inside the airport at the first level after you check in.

Not the biggest airport, but amazing. The security checks are very quick and you will arrive at the waiting area in no time. The waiting area is the best part because there are tons of seats and you will always find a place to sit and don't have to stand up for 2 hours to wait for your flight, and you have free internet anytime which is pretty fast, that's what I love about it

I am honestly impressed by organisation. Perhaps it is due to not a big number of flights or which I believe good organisation. Baggage checking in less then 5 minutes. Personal control same. Pass control slightly more due to the fact that travelling with kids you need to go by manual pass control. Automated is for adults and 16 plus. In general very good memories 😏

Great airport. Arriving was easy, no messing around and straight out with a short security queue. Going in was just as easy (as long as you have a paper ticket to scan) and there is plenty of places to waste time once past security. Smokers are well accommodated with a large, outside smoking area, there is plenty of choice for food and drinks and the shopping is the same as any airport.

Smoothest check-in process I had in a long time, friendly staff and passed security controls in less than 5 minutes. Without a EU passport the line was huge.

Airport Services have been improved since last year. Now, an E-Passport scan for ENTRY and EXIT (Saves a lot of time). Specially for EU, UK and US Passports.

Departures area has going through massive expansion and improvements for Passengers. Although, Online Checkin is still not Available for many... that's needs to be improved.

The airport was great, had plenty of shops where you could buy souvenirs and plenty of coffee shops (bars). Something else I liked was that there was a parking lot to park your car so you could get back home with your own car and didn't have to get a cab/taxi.

A very small clean efficient airport. Passport control was fast. There are a lot of restaurants inside and some just outside. Way too many smokers as soon as you step out the doors. And the parking lot is best described as a chaotic jumble of walking horns and impatient drivers

Small airport. Easy to get there. Parking right by the entrance, not expensive. Inside there is a lovely bookstore you can spend some time whilst waiting for your flight and there’s a great coffee shop named “Mulliri i vjeter” where you can find of course coffee but also delicious snacks and sweets.

I arrived around midnight and was pleasantly surprised: passport readers made entering easy, suitcases were already available for pick up, transportation to the city center was hassle free. Fixed price of 23 Euros, there was an official overview of the price rates. No scam artists roaming around, no annoying vendors or people looking to trap tourists. My first impression of Albania was really positive thanks to Tirana Airport.

Pretty decent airport.
You can sleep if arriving late in the midnight after 12 or 1 am. There’s sofas and row-seats that you can use to sleep, many travellers do this, so if there’s no available spots, you can just order something in the cafe and rest there (most of restaurants open 24 hours).
Taxi price €25 to Center of Tirana - I used Smart Taxi (booked online) and it costed me €12, a smart deal. Otherwise you can use Luna (shuttle Airport) costed only €4/person and working 24 hours every xx.00. If you are at least 3 people I suggest to book Smart Taxi (booking through WhatsApp - check their website, beware of scam, the real one don’t ask for down payment or transfer the money, you pay to the driver directly - pay with cash only during the day of your trip)

How airports should work, all others could be measured to this

It is easy to get to the airport by a Luna bus which goes every hour. Free wi-fi in all areas of the airport is definitely a benefit. Friendly and helpful staff. However, only printed tickets are accepted so be sure that you have time to print you ticket at the check-in desk.

Everything is great.
Security is fast, you can use your biometric passport afterwards and after security the airport is quite spacious, with a lot of shops and most importantly an outdoors smoking terrace

Very pleasant as airports go. Good food and coffee with a smile at OPA for a reasonable price compared to other airports.Easy to relax as the noise levels are quite low and at 9am there are not too many travellers.
