Een bijzonder gebouw om te zien aan het Vrijthof. Maastricht was lang de eerste plaats van verdediging wat tot 2006 door defensie in gebruik was. Het is thans nog steeds een mooi neoclassicistisch gebouw, kenmerkend met de boogjes galerij uitgevoerd in de blauwe steen uit Namen.

Maastricht kent een lange historisch militaire geschiedenis waarin veel in de geschiedenisboeken te vinden is. Zelfs de allerlaatste executie (1860) van een veroordeelde in Nederland, hier op het Vrijthof.

Het heeft nu een vredig gebruik gevonden, als een tentoonstellingsruimte en sinds 2016 ook te gebruiken als trouwlocatie.

Lanaken is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. On January 1, 2007, the municipality of Lanaken had a total population of 24,724. Its area is 59.00 km² which gives a population density of 415 inhabitants per km². Lanaken is located on the Belgian-Dutch border, bordering Maastricht directly. In the 2006 census, some 20 percent of the inhabitants turned out to have the Dutch nationality. source
