Thracian Rock-Hewn Sanctuary (Tatul)

Amazing view, place full of energy and peace at the same time. Easy to get there, the road is OK and you will enjoy beautiful nature views while driving.

Absolutely fascinating place! The Thracian sanctuary near Tatul Village, is a really unique place! It is very easy accesible place just 200 m away from the village or 15 km away from Momchilgrad.
The sanctuary is a massive rock structure and its top is a truncated pyramid. There are a rock sarcophagus, a rectangular bed for the main altar, and a three-metre-deep well.

Wonderful views. One the famous local sightseengs, entiant historical. There is an entrance fee but you can avoid it if you go after the working hours. They were doing some restavration the last time I went but I believe they shouldn't cause it doesn't look as it was. Be careful with small kids as it's really high.
Unknown from the tourists there is also a small "cave like" which we found by coincidence. There are no guiding signs for it but if you want to see it - After the old weapon go in direction behind the water well go in straight direction little bit on the right and you will see it behind a big rock. We named it The small womb ;)

Great place for a one day visit. It has an entry fee of 4 lv for adults and 2 lv for children and pensioners. Eco toilets at the entry and several benches.

An ancient sacred thracian site. There are interesting remains to explore there. Nearby there are 2 little caves which are also nice to explore as an addition to the main site.

Tatul is one of the most preserved Thracian sanctuaries in Bulgaria. It is believed that the grave of Orpheus is there. Simultaneously, there are remains of a medieval fortress or tower. The place is not far from the nearby village. A great place for a walk. GPS 41.541850,25.545570

Unique antique sacred place

Close to the village of Tatul, this is a ancient Thracian tomb and sanctuary from around the 3rd millennium BC. It also features a later defensive tower from around the 4-3rd century BC. The views are spectacular and the whole complex is an excellent place for families. Children can also discover and climb a few smaller rocks in the surrounding forest.

There are lots of interesting places to visit in the surrounding villages as well. Two maps in the complex will give you more ideas where to go next.
