One of the best preserved Ancient theaters in the world. A very inspiring and spacious place with a wonderful view and unique acoustics. It's just must visit!

Its just so calming and relaxing to just sit in this ancient theatre. I spent maybe 30mins just to sit down and admiring the beauty of this place. Well maintained, clean, amazing architecture. Ticket price is reasonable. There is 1 cafe next to it. You can sip your coffee while adoring this theatre. Must visit if you come to Plovdiv

One of the must visits in Plovdiv. The 1st century constructed Roman theatre is one of the best-preserved Roman theatres. An awesome piece of architecture and extremely nice to walk around and explore.

It can host between a few thousand spectators and is currently in use for major performances.

Visit it and experience/imagine the ancient days vibe when you are here.

Spectacular! This is the best preserved Roman Theatre in the world and located in the oldest city in Europe and what an absolute treat is was to experience this history, not just in terms of the Theatre, but the city as a whole. Its stunning, absolutely stunning. We went early October, arrived an hour before it closed and we had the whole Theatre to ourselves which was great. The views from the Theatre looking over Plovdiv and onto the mountains are breathtaking with the late summer sun. You can stroll around the entire monument which no barriers or gates stopping you from having a close up look and from up tip, you can see those incredible views.

Mobility wise, the steps actually inside the amphitheatre are really narrow and steep and reall slippery too. I wouldn't recommend going inside if you have any kind of trouble from your back downwards. That being said, don't write it off because at the ticket gate is a cafe serving hot and cold drinks and if I remember rightly, I think I saw alcohol (but dont quote me on that). The outside seating for this cafe is set up along the outside of the Theatre and you can still see everything perfectly well.

I can't remember how much it cost. About £4 each I think. It was no more than a fiver though.

Enjoy!

The ancient theater was beautiful. It's well-preserved and well-maintained. Entrance fees apply, but I believe it's worth it.

A fascinating piece of architecture and extremely beautiful to walk around and explore. The old Plovdiv town is just nearby to this exceptional theatre, so you can really take a deep dive into the history of this city. I would definitely recommend it to anyone if you want to get a glimpse of what life was like back then! 👍

The ancient theater is of my favourite places in town you can visit it in the day time as a monument or experience it when it comes alive at night. It's a wonderful venue for performances, so if you are visiting Plovdiv, definitely check out what's on. It's an unique experience.

The Roman theater - visit. A very old and beautiful building in the old city of Sofia. The building is used for performances. Entered the tour dozens of steps up to the stage. A very beautiful and impressive building, a very nice short tour. Entrance fee about 10 leva per family.

One of the finest venues to witness theatre. Truly takes you partly back to the ancient times. We watched Turandot (opera). Sunset colours. Bright moonrise. Great atmosphere.
Just a couple of minor points of caution: they don't allow drinks from the bar just outside and the bar just outside doesn't tell you that it isn't part of the Theatre. so there were dozens of us trying to finish our cocktails so that we don't miss you show 😉 They do offer wine bottles to buy, but ran out of plastic glasses 😞 We took our bottle home though 😉
Also reach early as the seating is first come first serve.
However, it is such good venue that nothing can dampen the experience. Lovely welcoming staff.

We went up to the Ancient theatre which was in fact closed when we got there. However you can still get a full view of the theatre through the gates, though you can get a good sense of what it is like.
The view is quite spectacular over the theatre and down to the city below.

Amazing piece of architecture in a very picturesque location. Yes you can see the theatre mostly from outside the fence at the top but spend the handful of Lev and pay to go inside and explore a little further, it'll be worth it

Probably the best ruins in Plovdiv. Make sure to enter and not just view from outside.
