Baba Vida Fortress

This was a very well maintained castle. Great to explore if you're able bodied. Steep cobblestone incline to second floor with great views. Small rooms to explore on first floor but steep stair (1 to 2 steps) entrances.

The fortress is well looked after. 7 lev per adult for entrance - just opposite the entrance is the ticket office. No tour guide. The fortress can be viewed from the inside and outside. Keep an eye out for beautiful foxes outside of the fortress in the early mornings and late afternoons. Spectacular views of the Danube from the top of the fortress. Time spent - 30 to 45 minutes. Definitely worth the visit.

Historic sigth with great significance to the region, one should deffinetelly check if near Vidin. Also great view to the Danube and the romanian side.

The most preserved Medieval fortress in the whole country is undoubtedly worth the visit. Most parts of the fortress are easily accessible and there is some information on its history scattered throughout. From the fortress, one can also enjoy a very beautiful view of the Danube river and the green area surrounding the riverside. Only thing that could be improved is putting some labels around the various towers, rooms etc. so that you don't have to guess what those are and what they were used for.

Great little fortress to visit, mostly open air, few rooms inside (chapel, museum, prison), nice setting for beautiful pictures. Lots of cobbles and uneven ground, slippery surface, inclines and steps - wear sturdy shoes. Some souvenirs just outside the fortress.

Very cool view from the top of the towers to Romania, the city (Vidin) and Danube bridge. The park is great and offers shade, food and cold drinks in the hot summer days. Around it are other attractions which you can also visit in the same day.

Единствената изцяло запазена крепост по българските земи. Историята й датира от древността, през средновековието, до войните след Освобождението. Бяхме изключително впечатлени от запазените коридори, стълбища и кули, както и от гледката към река Дунав и отсрещния незастроен бряг. Разположена е в много приятна градина по поречието, където можете да си направите допълнителна разходка.
В деня на нашето посещение имаше базар и входът за Баба Вида беше свободен, но дори и да не, беше е лесно позволим. Би било добре да се поддържа повече и реставрира постоянно, за да се запази по-дълго във времето. Не се забелязва присъствие на служители вътре, което е предпоставка за вандалски прояви.

It shortly served as a palace for the last Bulgarian King Ivan Stratsimir

Very nice fortress, quiet big and in good conditions. A lot of rooms inside and in some rooms you can find "something" :)

An amazing Medieval fortress by the Danube River! Very impressive and fully preserved. Definitely worth a visit. Vidin is a beautiful town as well.

A beautiful, beautiful fortress which is extremely well preserved. The fortress has an outer and an inner yard, with several rooms in the inner yard. There's an altar room, a dungeon, and two exhibition rooms. Hidden winding staircases and broad paths lead up to a big field from where you can access the lookouts and two square towers. The views of the Danube River are breathtaking! There's no toilet on the fortress premises, the place is not wheelchair accessible, and the cobbled paths are a bit slippery, so be careful. The entrance fee is 4 BGN for adults and 2 BGN for children, students, and pensioners. Definitely recommend!

Very large and beautiful fortress. Extraordinary view to the river. Not very crowded. The entry price is not high. There are plenty of rooms, some of which represent the history of the fortress. There are rooms with fake prisoners. There are 3 towers in the fortress. There is only one entry and exit point to the fortress.

It could use more attention from the government, but it was definitely fun to visit 🙌

Awe inspiring view from the top of the rocks. But do avoid if you are in any way inform because the steps are some what challenging.

It's a cute place. It would be nice if the Bulgarian authorities would invest a little in that city and the fortress. Light up the walls, have some cafes around. Bulgarian people were really nice but the city is almost dead. A shame. Beautiful location and lots of history.
