Ancient town Heraclea Sintica

A unique place with archeological findings of three civilizations! You will see the center of the city which had a population of 40000 people. It is important to ask for a lecture at the ticket shop so you can learn more about the history of this place. Prepare water, hat and sunscreen as this part of Bulgaria tends to be really hot in the summer. The ancient city is enormous and yet it awaits to be fully discovered.

Still in the research phase. According to the archeologist working there, with this budget coming from the government, will be needed 100 years, until the city is fully rediscovered. According to them the city is 8-9 square kilometers, but now it is visible only 200 square meters. You need around 1 hour to see all inside where it is permitted.

I was really impressed, the ancient town has been of major significance for both Thracians and Romans for almost 1000 years. A lot more to discover, so hopefully the site will grow. But you can already see/imagine the grandeur.

Amazing place! I really think that these ancient ruins can show and teach you a lot about the ancient Thracians, Greeks and Romans. If you are nearby this is a must go place.

Huge and Majestic place.
It has soo much history in it.
It tells the story of the magnificent tribe Sinti who lived in this place.
Heraclea Sintica is one of the most amazing place in that area and you must see it.

New found town of Heraclea Sintica is amazing. It is uncovered just tiny bit but they are working on it. The whole area is of the town spreads very far and I hope the archeologists will get proper funding to uncover this magnificent town. There was a coin and a necklace found from Alexander the Great, which are now in the Petrich museum. The entrance is just 2 leva which is €1, or $1.25. It is worth visiting. 0

Impressive place for history lovers. Atanas (an archeologist and a guide) has good sense of humour and respects history. He told me some funny stories that happened during excavating objects.

The history and the potential of this place are really unique. This is still an excavation site. And for you to be able to truly enjoy the site you need to hear about its history first. Did you know that this ×was perhaps the largest Thracian settlement spreading 10km towards the river? It fell due to earthquakes and flooding.
The guard there can tell you the story very specifically and i enjoyed it. Not sure how it will work in English though. So make sure you read about it online too.
