if you are in Belarus, be sure to visit this place, the energy of this place is going through the roof. be sure to take a guide to the open part of the memorial complex. history must be known and remembered, and not as it is now fashionable to forget, turn over.

Here you can experience the greatness and sadness of war simultaneously, nothing much left of the original buildings thanks to those Germans, but the museum and maps of the Fort give a good idea of how large the site actually is. The monuments are imposing as go never forget what happened.

Formerly known as Brest-Litoŭsk Fortress, is a 19th-century fortress in Brest in present-day Belarus. In 1965 the title "Hero Fortress" was given to the fortress to commemorate the defence of the frontier stronghold during the first week of the German-Soviet War of 1941-1945 when Axis forces invaded the Soviet Union with the launch of Operation Barbarossa on June 22, 1941. The title "Hero Fortress" corresponds to the title "Hero City" that the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union awarded to an eventual total of twelve Soviet cities.

It's better to come here during summer though the winter is very beautiful and it has it's own charm the cold can be too intimidating

MemORIAL COMPLEX «BREST HERO-FORTRESS»

On September, 25 1971 the memorial complex «Brest Fortress» was opened. More than 600 veterans of the Brest garrison 1941 were present.
There are the ruins of the old fortress, the battlefields, the monumental sculptures presented in a unified architectural and artistic ensemble of the memorial, that perpetuated the «true story of the legendary heroes of the Brest fortress

When visiting Brest Fortress, it is impossible not to see the huge statue laying down. The statue which is like carrying all the clouds in his shoulders has been built in the memory of the heroes who defended Brest. The fortress is founded on very wide area. Very close to the city center. Good for spending weekends also. In the middle a church takes place

Very well-maintained memorial park. Impressive statues and gorgeously sad trees. Entry is free. Bring sun screen and a hat on very sunny days. They play music for extra mood around the entrance and the big man in a rock statue.

This is an amazing reconstruction of the bombed and flattened barracks where 10,000 people died including women and children. very atmospheric. The great memorial and the poignant weeping willow trees all add to the quiet serene space to walk and contemplate. We did a round trip from Minsk which was approx 800 kilometre and it was well worth it.

An incredibly moving place. If you’re not from Eastern Europe you should visit these monuments and learn more about the Second World War from the perspective of Belarus. The museum of war territory of peace has great exhibits, be sure to rent an audio guide!
