Jalapas restaurant

We went to this restaurant, based on a recommendation from a fellow traveler, and I'm glad we did. The food and service were great. I have to add to the accolades about Leo's Salmon! It was dark when we arrived for dinner, but I'm sure the view is spectacular in the daylight.

The location is not as remote as it might appear (only 17 minutes from our hotel north of La Fortuna), and we easily used Uber to get there and back.

We were unfortunate with the scenery, but incredibly lucky with the food at Jalapas! I've never been a big fan of salmon, but this restaurant completely changed my perspective on it. Thank you for showing me how delicious and tender salmon can be. The crispy skin and outer layer were delightful contrasts to the raw and fresh center! We also ordered chicken, which I found to be average compared to the fish. However, the service was impeccable! Despite the lack of customers due to the bad weather, the kitchen was a bit slow, but the servers made us feel right at home. I even left a tip, much to the surprise of our server!

Absolutely incredible and well worth the short detour off the main road that leads to La Fortuna. The atmosphere and food paired perfectly with the fantastic menu. The service was friendly and incredible. My husband and our 6yo daughter and I came for lunch after a morning of hiking and I had the Costa Rican style Gumbo and it was my favourite dish I’ve tried since been in the country. Superb experience!!

This place was worth the drive a bit out of the main town. The food was fresh, tasty, and all presented. The scenery was spectacular. Come early so you can enjoy the mountainous terrain in the daylight. We loved every bit of going here.

Just a beautiful view with excellent views! Definitely worth the detour. Great food and lovely hosts. Get a taxi from La Fortuna. The dishes are fantastic - try to Caribbean chicken and Ceviche. We will come back if we can…👍

We had a great time and the food was excellent. The pumpkin soup is delicious! We had the Casado and Coconut Shrimp and were very happy! Go here if you want good food around Arenal. It is a fairly long way off the main road but adds to the ambience.

Great restaurant and service with a beautiful view. Everything we ordered was delicious. Would highly recommend. I had the pollo caribeño and it was amazing, my husband had the salmon and it was delicious as well. Their tostones and ceviche appetizers and delicious. Overall, it is great.

Delicious food! Amazing view! Great service. We were a bit hesitant about the drive but we’re so happy we came, totally worth it. Service is great.

Highly recommend the Caribbean chicken, bbq ribs and the ceviche. My husband is a chef, this is his third time in Costa Rica and he said the Caribbean chicken was the best meal he has had in the county.

Beautiful view, great service and really delicious. We were treated to dessert. Book in advance. They have their own parking lot

Most Incredible view and food. We watched the sunset of the volcano. The other side of the restaurant has a view of a valley. Both amazing. The food was absolutely amazing. Had luigis chicken and the absolute best Caribbean lemonade. I actually had to get a 2nd one it was ssoo good.

The food is good and the people are amazing. Luis and his team took such good care of us! We were welcomed and helped to take some pictures before sitting at our table. We both enjoyed our food and the atmosphere and views were great. The service extended beyond dinner as we left for our taxi they walked us through the rain with umbrellas and sent us on our way. It is so easy to see the passion and care that they have for their restaurant and it truly shows. It was a wonderful experience and we would highly recommend anyone go see Luis and company at Jalapas.

We are so FORTUNATE that we found out about this restaurant our last day in La Fortuna! Absolutely best meal we had (and all the food has been very good)! It was outstanding! The people and the service were amazing! Make sure you eat while in La Fortuna area! A+++++++ the Leo’s Salmon and Luigi’s chicken were among the favorite of dishes we tried! The dessert - just wow!!!

The best ever food! Their. Chicken is the best I have had in a very long time- funnily I don’t even like chicken but this was amazing. We tried a bunch of restaurants close by, but this one as the best

My husband and I discovered Jalapas during our honeymoon and loved it so much we went two days in a row. The food was incredible (one of the top meals I’ve had) and the food is so fresh. The staff are all very friendly and we had a chance to speak with the owner for a little bit. He was extremely kind and caring. Not to mention - the views are STUNNING! We would recommend this place to anyone!

Wow we have been talking about our lunch here since we ate it a few days ago!!! The view is outstanding and the food and drinks were so so good !! I would HIGHLY recommend the arroz con palmito!!!

Sooo good! We got the salmon with cane syrup, passion chicken, and tropical ceviche. It was all so good. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They even gave us dessert on the house.

By far the best meal we have had in Costa Rica. This place is a gem. Weather didn’t cooperate but the meal was off the charts. We had the nacho appetizer and both had a chicken dish. Passion Chicken had the most amazing flavors as did my meal of traditional chicken Casado. This place is a diamond in the rough. Super easy if staying at The Springs. No need to eat anywhere else. Owners are amazing husband and wife team who show the love in their meal preparation. Seasoned travels, this place hits all the marks.

Cannot recommend it enough. I have a feeling I might not be able to afford to eat here in 10 years. There is no way this place stays the small gem that it is. Food was incredible, view was incredible. Staff was perfect! Location is unmatched.

Must visit! The view is beautiful (you can even see Nicaragua) and the food was delicious. We especially loved the salmon and Caribbean chicken. The service was wonderful, it was great to talk to the staff. Our best meal in Costa Rica!!

Probably the nicest staffed restaurant I have ever been to. Coming from someone from The US where tip culture drives service, they seem to do it just out of pure kindness. We ran in during an absolute downpour and they ran to open the doors and used towels to dry off my son and daughter. We stayed just down the road and we made it a point to make a return trip for a second meal there. The Salmon dish was amazing.
