Amazing beach known for being very wide and shallow. Great for all beach activities including surfing. Endangered turtles are known to nest here so do not disturb them while on land; they may turn around and not lay their eggs. Avoid shining white lights as this may confuse the hatchlings.

I highly recommend Jonathan. He is thoroughly knowledgeable about the plant and wildlife in the area. On top of that, he is kind and speaks very good English. You can tell that he enjoys giving nature tours and sharing his passion and expertise with others. Jonathan promptly picked us up in the morning for the 2-2.5 hr canoe tour of the Tamarindo Estuary. It was peaceful and he went slowly enough that we did not feel rushed to see all that we wanted. He knows where to look for the animals! We got lucky and even saw a croc!!! Jonathan and his tour get a 10+/10 from me… very enjoyable, peaceful, enlightening, fun, etc. Money well spent. Absolutely worth it!!!

My wife and I have gone on Johnathon's estuary canoe tour 3 or 4 times now, and it is always amazing! He is a fantastic guide who is very knowledgeable and passionate about the plants and animals, and takes us into some quiet places where he is always great at pointing out birds and animals that would otherwise be difficult to see. His howler monkey call is delightfully realistic! We have always done the 6am tour from Hotel las Tortugas on Playa Grande. Definitely check it out! His number is 50685348664

Really great boat trip up the river from Tamarindo. Got the see a lot of birds, a baby crocodile, and even some howler monkeys. Water and pineapple provided near the end were a fantastic treat.

Had a great time there, just make sure to take sun block and plenty of water as the heat can get pretty brutal. The road there isn't completely paved but pretty much any car can get there. Saw different kinds of birds, crabs and some already hatched turtle eggs.

Playa grande was incredible! Beautiful sunset and souls. The people are so welcoming and I talked to many people outside of my group. I traveled with a Spanish class to Costa Rica and this was one of my favorite places solely because of the sunset and soccer I played with the locals. If you ever find yourself exploring this beach be sure to talk to new people, especially locals.

Boat tour worth $30. Good English. Lots of neat animals to see. Missed out on monkeys but could hear them near by.

This place is a must for anyone near it. Since the beach is so big, it doesn't feel crowded even when there's a lot of people but it's not alone enough for it to be unsafe. Beautiful sunsets. Dangerous currents tho, great place for surfing.

A must see if in the area, but be advised that the beach is closed from sundown to sunup.

A much slower pace here than nearby Tamarindo. Some will find it boring but lots of sheer natural beauty, good surfing and gorgeous sunsets.

Great place, beautiful sunsets, long beach good for a walk , clean, sand with no rocks. Waves good for surf, but not that much to swim. Area with palm to take a rest or install a hammock. Next to the paved road. Restaurants close. One of the best beaches in Guanacaste.

Long beautiful surf beach in uncluttered by sprawling condos since it's a national park. To much currents to swim but perfect for surfing. There are however a few rich tourist losing spaces. Look out for spoiler brats who bury theirs cigarette butts in the sand and spend 2 days looking for their lost phones in the waves. Sorry, I haven't seen it...
