Hotel Cerro Lodge

Our two nights here were amazing. The view is spectacular and the wildlife was fun to watch. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The outdoor bathroom was beautiful and fun and did not have as many bugs as I was expecting! The food was so good, especially the breakfast. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The rooms are a bit spread out and some have a longer walk than others, but the privacy was nice. All over an amazing stay and I highly recommend!

This hotel was our favourite part of a week in Costa Rica. Loved this place! The rooms are actually small cabins scattered around the lush property which is teeming with beautiful birds and butterflies. Our room was accessible with no stairs anywhere. Beds were comfortable and not hard. Some have bathrooms open to a tiny garden (screened off and very private) and were just stunning with hummingbirds visiting the flowers there. All have a front porch with a bench and overhang in case it rains and you want to sit outside. The deck overlooking the pool is a great spot for bird and butterfly watching. We counted at least 30 species of birds in just an hour on the deck. The pool is lovely and offers some shade thanks to mature trees nearby. The whole property is lush and teeming with nature. This is a bird watcher's paradise.

The small gravel road leading to the lodge was well maintained and we didn't need a 4x4 to access it.

Journey time from Liberia to here was about 3 hours as part of the highway is only two lanes so trucks slow the traffic considerably.

Only 13 minutes drive to Crocodile Bridge.

If we return to Costa Rica we will stay here for longer for sure.

Come for the Scarlet Macaws, views and ocean breeze. Hotel Cerro Lodge is perched on a hillside above the coast. The Scarlet Macaws come to visit each morning and afternoon along with many other birds. We got great photos and a few life birds just sitting at breakfast and lunch.

The pool is refreshing and well maintained. The restaurant serves a good typical breakfast (less expensive if you book direct and include it as an option) and good pizzas for lunch and dinner.

The nearest recommended beaches are about 30-35 min drive away, make sure to research beach parking.

We stopped there with our kids and loved it. We loed the macaws at breakfast, the monkeys around the pool. The place is quiet and airy. The Italian pizzas are terrific. We liked it so much that we planned a stop back at the end of our trip.

The hotel location is excellent with a beautiful view, particularly a sunset view. Food and service is very good. Rooms are small, but cozy.

Great place near Carara National Park. Simple but clean rooms, small pool. One of the best places to see scarlet Macaws and monkeys while having breakfast. Also great authentic Italian pizza. All at very reasonable prices.

Loved this spot. Nestled into the jungle off the main highway, it was peaceful and quiet and we were surrounded by monkeys and macaws!! I'm a mountain girl so i wanted to avoid staying in the busy beach towns but still be nearby friends that were staying at the beach. It's a great location! The pool was great, we used it even though it was pouring. Friendly staff, very clean rooms, warm water! Towels provided for the pool. The pizza from the specialty onsite pizzeria was delicious and the best deal. Other food was a bit pricey ($10 for breakfast and more for dinner, basically US pricing). But for the fair price on rooms I couldn't complain too much. I woke up at 730 am to see the macaws and they were there until around 8. Apparently if people are eating they'll fly up to you but no one was at the restaurant so maybe they went to find food elsewhere.

Very nice way stop hotel where the restaurant is a shiny star. The Italian lady that cooks delights with freshly baked bread, pizzas and tasty pasta. Just go for the Italian menu card. The room is clean and the people friendly.

An exceptional bird-friendly lodge. The Cerro staff were friendly, helpful, and hooked us up with a great boat tour during our stay. The food was delicious and the rooms were well-appointed. The outdoor bathroom at our cabin hosted a friendly bat and tree frog, that might not be ideal for some but we were thrilled to have such fascinating wildlife drop by to visit!

The restaurant has an excellent pizzeria ! (Run by an Italian chef).

Great place for a relaxing stay! It's far in the middle of the jungle so it feels pretty remote, with its own restaurant you really don't need to leave. Yet it's close to anything should you want to explore.

Rooms are simple but do the job, but amenities are really nice and eco friendly.

Food is simple and good.

Cerro Lodge is absolute paradise! We love the views, the birds, and the animals on site. We saw lots of macaws flying in pairs, and one even came to the deck of the restaurant while we ate breakfast. The food was delicious. The rooms were clean, and the staff treated us like royalty. I’d go back in a heartbeat. Be sure to bring insect repellent if you are prone to getting bit.

Tremendously peaceful and beautiful location. What a setting for wildlife. What a gift to see the abundance of Toucans, hummingbirds, butterfly’s, Macaws and the other little birds in their natural environment. We heard the Howler monkeys each day just never actually saw one. Our only regret on the trip. Management was great and the accommodations were terrific. Super clean!! Good Food. Don’t miss out on the great lookout early morning.

Great hospitality, had a very clean room and dinner was great. Try the pineapple smoothie! ♥ Aras are quite often here. One was above our room. Wish there were more things to do in the area.

Absolutely perfect place to stay. The rooms are lovely, clean, spacious, with great bathrooms and really comfortable beds. The staff are fantastic nothing is too much trouble. The view from the restaurant and terrace could not be better and the food was great too. We didn't want to leave.

Wonderful hidden and lovely property. We had an incredible time seeing a wild Scarlett Macaw up close at breakfast and the service was amazing. Everyone who worked there was very attentive. Thank you so much. : )

We booked this hotel last minute because our previous hotel was horrible. When we arrived we were blown away at how beautiful the grounds are, the amazing views to the sea, the very kind and friendly staff. This hotel is 3km down a dirt road from the highway so you don’t hear any cars - just nature. We saw more wildlife here then we have on our entire trip in Costa Rica. Within the first hour we saw 4 scarlet macaws and lots of money’s, plus variations of birds, iguanas and butterflies.. this was an excellent choice and a great place to unwind from our busy travels. The bathroom is huge and the bedroom very clean. Definitely go here. They have a restaurant too.

Nice lodge with good food. The patio by the restaurant has a great view over the mangrove swamps around the mouth of the Tarcoles River. The lodge caters to ecotourism. There are bird feeders by the patio, which also attract monkeys. For birdwatchers, the feeders are good in the morning and there is a small area to walk around. Carara National Park nearby is an excellent birdwatching destination.

Very nice hotel in a very nice green and lush jungle location. The food (pizza) was very good and the staff is very friendly.
