Vidåslusen

Vidåslusen is part of the “Det Fremskudte Dige”, which was built between 1979 and 1981 to replace the older Højer Dike from 1861, which threatened to break after a storm surge in 1976. The lock is made of concrete and has three parallel chambers, each with two self-closing wooden gates facing the sea and one storm shutter facing the land.
The lock ensures that water from the Vidå river can flow out into the Wadden Sea at low tide, while at the same time preventing water from the Wadden Sea from flowing into the Vidå river at high tide. The area between Højer Sluse and Vidåslusen is home to a rich birdlife and the Margrethekog saltwater lake was established as a resting place for birds in the area.
From the top of the dike, there is a wide view to the west over the Wadden Sea, to the east over Højer’s old lock and dike, and to the northeast over Højer town with Højer Mill as a clear landmark. The cultural environment is important as a resting place for migratory birds, my dog, Lexi, and is a unique example of a reclaimed area where one can experience contemporary coastal protection, land reclamation, lock and dike facilities.

This is a truly beautiful place. Lots of birds and even seals sometimes. Totally magical at sundown. It's also a good place for walking and running.

Beautiful spot and looking through the strong binoculars from the tower gives you an idea of the vast amount of birds that rely on the wadensee low tides.

Fine place to see the North Sea being kept at bay. Nice eatery, too.

Much better selection of foods an snacks than other similar fast-food outlets.

Sluse i Det Fremskudte Dige helt ud mod vadehavet. Fin lille udstilling og spisested. Fra toppen af kontroltårnet er der en flot udsigt over landskabet og en kraftig kikkert så man kan se togene på Hindenburg-dæmningen.

Sehr schönes Naturschutzgebiet im Marschland und Wattenmeer. Aussichtspunkt für die verschiedenen Vogelarten. Sehr gut zu laufen.

Ein schöner Platz. Gute Lauf und Radmöglichkeiten. Wir standen mit dem Wohnmobil für eine N8 dort. Sehr sehr ruhig. Das Lokal hatte noch nicht auf.

Slusen var et fedt sted☺. Caféen var lukket da vi komme pga heledag☺ men vi hyggede os stadig👍der var nogle der fiskede ved floden. Parkeringplads er gratis.

God udsigt med kikkert på mange forskellige arter fugle. Dejligt fredet område med god ynglemulighed for de fredede arter.
