We had an amazing experience staying at Black Sheep Inn! The area is gorgeous, one of the most beautiful places I have visited! I loved all the amenities (interesting gym, yoga studio, massages/sauna/hot tub for an extra price) and different places to hang out on the grounds of Black Sheep with beautiful views. The staff were so wonderful, the food was great, and I loved the cozy feel. The hotel also has an eco focus which was really cool!

They had lots of suggestions for activities and one thing I really appreciated were the self-guided hikes that were recommended in the area. We were there for three full days and had things to do every day, and I loved exploring the area and meeting people in the area. Edmundo gave us lots of suggestions for activities and helped us arrange everything we needed.

One thing I would mention that (as expected given that this hotel is on a hillside) some of the rooms have a long staircase to reach them. Luckily, Black Sheep was able to accomodate us in a lower room because my friend had a hard time going up all the stairs, but just something to know! It did not end up being an issue for us.

Thank you Edmundo, Marta, and everyone! I hope to visit again soon.

My friends and I loved our stay at the Black Sheep Inn!

We spent 3 days hiking Quilotoa trek and on day two were spent the night here and it was incredibly cozy and inviting after our long day of backpacking.

They only have WiFi in the main house so if you need WiFi for work you’d have to spent a couple of hours in there, other than that there wasn’t any issues in anything else!

The food they gave us was amazing and the sweet homemade baked goods were delightful too.

The host was very informative about the type of eco-tourism that Black Sheep strives to do and I’d say they nailed it! The compost toilets and outdoors showers were fantastic and the rooms were incredibly cozy for the cold nights we spent.

We even had a visit from the hotels kitty cat.

The hotel also had great amenities such has a gym and yoga studio!

Overall great experience Thank you for having us!

My Stay at Black Sheep Inn was great! I never wrote a google review before but I feel like this place owned it! I stayed two nights, had a wonderful view at the mountains, there is a sauna (which is actually hot!) a little jacuzzi, selfmade outdoor gym, yoga area, actual black sheep’s and other animals!
The dinner and the free snacks as well as breakfast is included and the best meal i‘ve eaten here so far! The owner is super kind and you can tell that he loves his work which made me really happy to see. Also it’s perfectly located at the quilotoa loop for all the hikers out here.
I could just book it on the website itself but there was a really quick response.

Wonderful experience, highly recommend!

Good:
-Privacy/spread out means it's quieter for sleeping
-Edmundo is the best!! Super helpful and friendly, responsive to email, and willing to go above and beyond! This is a well-run place.
-Fun to explore the whimsical Swiss Family Robinson-esque property with treehouses, llamas you can pet, lots of common areas, etc.
-Sauna felt great!
-Meals were great and we liked the food and packed lunch better here than Llullu Llama
-If you have a group they'll rent out the whole dorm to you at a decent price, and the dorm is such a cool building! Plus all the bunkbeds have excellent privacy/blackout curtains around them.
-There's a ton of bathrooms, so even though most rooms have shared bathrooms, it's really more like a private bathroom you just have to go outside to get to.
-Great views from almost everywhere!

Bad:
-The hot tub is pretty small and only had like six inches of water in it.
-Value (unless you're in the dorm, which is great value considering it includes all three meals): I liked this place better than Llullu Llama, but at double the price ($50pp for a room with shared bathroom vs. $25 at LL), it might a little overpriced. We would not have stayed here if they hadn't rented us out the dorm at a decent price.
-Website needs to be updated - small things, for example, it said Sunday breakfast was pancakes and jazz but there was no jazz, and it said the spa was $15 per group but it's really $5pp
-There were some mice in the walls in the dorm which made noise at night on the top two floors

Neutral
-Just so you know there is only wifi in the Main Lodge and it's not blazing fast. So no wifi (and virtually no cell service) in most of the rooms. Not a bad thing at all, just something you should know.

Overall a wonderful stay and 100% will stay again if I can get a good price!

We stayed here for one night whilst hiking the Quilatoa Loop and loved it! We were welcomed by Edmundo with freshly baked brownies, banana bread, cookies and hot tea, which was needed after a long day hiking. The food here was all vegetarian and homemade and was absolutely delicious! There is a fire stove in the common area that was great to sit in front of after dinner to keep warm. The dorm was cosy and there were plenty blankets on the bed. Edmundo is very knowledgeable about the Quilotoa hike and told us all we would need to know before setting off in the morning. I would highly recommend a stay here - it's a very homely and cosy hostel.

This is a very special place! We spent a night during the Quilatoa Loop on our honeymoon, and the staff made us very welcome. Our room had a small wood burning stove. All in all an extremely cosy place to spend a night when hiking in Ecuador.

One of the best places we stayed in. Reserve via WhatsApp. They speak English. They have sauna, hot tub, banana bread and an insanely cozy cabin :)

We had the greatest time at Black Sheep Inn. We were hiking the Quilotoa loop and wanted to splurge for a nice night mid hike. WOW did we pick right!! Wood burning stove in the private room, composting toilet was fun too! Outdoor fire pit with endless wood was a total treat to admire the llamas and gorgeous mountain views!! Dinner, lunch and breakfast included in the price and all were delicious! The owner took us to the trailhead the next morning to show us the trail; so helpful and encouraging!! The black sheep were so friendly and fun to pet!! We only regretted not staying an extra day so we could play the highest disc golf course in the world located on their property! So many great spots to hang out on the property and enjoy the views!! Cannot say enough good things about our stay! Hot showers, clean rooms, welcoming people, delicious food, gorgeous views! Could not have asked for anything more!

My girlfriend and I had an amazing time at The Black Sheep Inn! After a long day of hiking they greet you with warm tee and all of the bread, brownies, and cookies you could want. We had a gorgeous little cottage that was designed with sustainability in mind and amazing views in the morning. The staff was so considerate and welcoming and the food was delicious! The environment was so cozy and the food was so good that we wished we had stayed longer. I would highly recommend Black Sheep if you are looking to do the Quilatoa loop or even just looking to see the area.

Our family of four loved this sweet little Inn and all agree that this was our favorite stay during our two weeks in Ecuador. We love all the earth conscious character this place has from the composting toilets to the sink basins that recycle water directly to the plants. The wood stove fed sauna and hot tub were amazing treats after days of heavy trekking and the endless supply of delicious brownies, banana bread and cookies along with an assortment of teas, coffees and cocoa were sublime!

We loved hanging out in the beautiful yoga room and our meals were excellent! Above all though, we deeply appreciated Edmundo and his team for taking over the care of our beloved trail hitchhiker, a 12 pound pup we named Llu Llu, who followed us for three days of hiking along the Quilatoa trek. We fell in love with this pooch and Edmundo offered to adopt her as a hostel pup while trying to find her owners. Our only regret is not spending more time at this Inn to explore the endless trails and villages in the area, and I highly recommend doing a trail ride with Umberto. Thanks Again,

Megan

We had a fantastic stay in the Black Sheep Inn. Delicious banana bread, breakfast and a nice natural sauna and hot pot.

But the best was the horse back riding with our guide Umberto to the cloud forest: fantastic scenery, super guide, who loves what he does, and gentle horses.
You can book it via Black Sheep Inn. We can definitely recommend it!

This is an incredible place, I went for one night and absolutely had to stay another!
Plus it seems the only hostel set back from the road a little, so no pollution.
I was the only person in the dorm which is like a huge tree house, super comfy and I was surprisingly warm enough without a fire.
It’s full of arty details, a real labour of love, it’s a large site with many places to explore.
My only suggestion would be to include a good portion of lentils or beans in the dinner as protein after a hard hike.
On that note, I would recommend staying here and doing day hikes as opposed the actual Quilotoa Loop which is actually very difficult uphill hikes with the altitude, I skipped the last day due to injuring my back and I’m a pretty fit person.
The sauna and hot tub here are lovely too!

Very warm greeting from owner. Mostly walkers doing the Quilatoa loop staying. Good vegetarian food, great joga room with views. The cottages were well stocked with wood and enjoyed the warmth of the stoves overnight. The whole place is dedicated to sustainable ecotourism and worth the experience of what it’s all about

We loved our stay we ended up staying an extra night haha. Edmundo was so helpful and caring for all of his guests.
The food was all so amazing, they even include lunch in the price which a lot of the others don't. We have never slept so well and the banana bread was a cherry on top
