The castle is right next to the road but there is a parking lot and the bus stop right next to it. You can enter the castle (or what is left of it) and let your imagination go wild. It is an unfinished building which has a quite sad story: one man was building it for his loved one but she died.
There is something about the place that attracts you and makes you want to stay there a bit longer.
I tried to imagine what it would've looked like if it had been entirely built.
To get there you can take a bus from Haapsalu bus station (ca 10 minutes) or go there by car. I took a walk (ca 50 min) from Haapsalu through the forest.
If you go there, take your time and enjoy.

The ruins of the Ungru manor represents one of the most impressive Neo-Baroque buildings in Estonia and Baltic states.

It's sophisticated approach and the numerous ornaments on its glance are truly characteristic for the castle.

▶Interesting to know: The Ungru Manor was an almost exact copy of the Merseburg castle in Germany.

After World War II the manor fell into the hands of Soviet troops, in 1968 the chief of the airport decided to use the ruins of the manor to fill in the holes in the runway. About one third of the manor was torn down, fortunately the rest was preserved until today.
Compare the ruins of the manor to the contrasting Soviet airfield remains next to it.

Ungru castle ruins are unique, although the castle was never fully completed it’s ruins speak more than it could or should. There’s mystical vibes that you can feel with your body, by adding mystic of Milky Way to the background it creates every more astonishing feelings and thoughts. I recommend everyone to visit this location.

Nice castle on the side of the road

These are only ruins but despite that they are very beautiful. There are no such kind of other ruins in Estonia. The story behind the Ungru castle is interesting to read. The place is very easy to reach because it is next to a big road that goes to Rohuküla harbour.

Very cool place to visit. When you are going down the road, you do not expect something like that to be next to it. Worth stopping and checking out

Some remainings of once lovely mansion.

I don’t know why but this place doesn’t receive as much attention as it should, even though it’s on a pretty popular road. Highly suggest you to just stop by and have a look at this old manor.
