It's a rock-hewn Orthodox church in Ethiopia. It is thought to have been built around the 12th century by King Lalibela, who constructed more than ten rock-hewn churches in Northern Ethiopia (Wollo).

Adadi Mariam is a small church about 60 km from Addis Ababa. It is an old church and still functional. It was founded by King (Saint) Lalibela in the 13th Century AD. If you are going to Adadi Mariam rock carved church, Thursday OR Sunday are the best as you would also visit the interesting weekly held cultural market of the Oromo people at Adadi town. Entrance fee to visit the church is 100 Ethiopian Birr per person.
