Fitretu was kind enough to accommodate mine and my friend's last minute trip to Ethiopia. His company's prices are fair, we felt safe and we thoroughly enjoyed the itinerary he planned out for us. It was the perfect way to explore certain sites and areas of Ethiopia we wanted to see in the short time frame we had. I would love to return and explore Omo Valley!

I used Fitretu’s services a few years ago as I wanted to explore the southern omo valley region of Ethiopia. I wanted a guide that new the region well and had all the right contacts. I didn’t want to go with an expensive tour company from Addis for I knew from experience that they would take a big margin and sub contract the tour out to a local company. I was very happy with Fitretu’s services and, unusually for Africa, he never hit me with any extras/hidden costs. I thoroughly recommend this company if you want the real deal !

My wife and I went to Ethiopia for our honeymoon. I found Fitretu online, after having searched for days. Fitretu had gotten many good reviews. I contacted several tour guides who had good reviews. Fitretu got back to me right away and was accommodating and knowledgeable. He has lots of local connections with the tribes we wanted to see, which enabled us inside access and to meet the people. We had locals bring us around at the villages, so we didn't feel that we were coming in looking at the people like they were in a zoo. We felt more like visitors to the tribes, instead of spectators. Also, VERY IMPORTANT, our driver was cautious and careful. The driving in Ethiopia is SCARY, and we felt very safe. That tends to be my biggest fear, is the driving. I'm sorry to say I don't remember our drivers name, but he was excellent. I have been on buses and cars in which I feared for my life, spun out, hit a man, etc., after repeatedly telling drivers to slow down. With Fitretu and our driver, I had none of this.

Fitretu is top proffessional guide, feeling and understanding the peoples of south Ethiopia. He is also the real gentleman, therefore we're still in touch after years. All together made our common time and trips unforgettable.

We are 4 people that spent 26 days on an excellent experienced journey all around Ethiopia, a road trip more than 5500 km.
We did this with Fitretu Getachew, our guide and tour operator of “Open Ethiopia tours”.
Our experienced and carefully driver Hayle was all the 26 days with us by a new Toyota Land Cruiser 2017.
Fitretu is from Omo Valley, from Hamer tribe, speaks the omo dialects and knows almost everyone there.
Going for visiting any tribe, everything was arranged by telephone before our arrival, so we were wellcomed by the tribes and felt safe as he was with us.
He used to give us also the photo fees that we had to give for every photo.
At first we visited the north part of Ethiopia ( Addis, Lalibela, Dallol, Danakil, Yeha, Tigray,Axum, Gondar, Bahir Dar, Blue Nile Falls, lake Tana, Chamo, Abraminch.
Then southern to Omo valley, Jinka, Turmi, tribe markets, bull jump, Awassa, Nechisar national park, Hawassa, Adama, Shalla national park.
Finally at North East, to Harar, Awash national park and falls, Wondo hot springs and forest, etc.
We were lucky to see very different tribes: Dorze, Konso, Ari, aggressive Mursi, Turmi, Dassanech, Karo, Nyangaton, Erbore, Alaba.
The booked hotels were good and for some of them we had the possibility to change.
The food that we had at local restaurants on the road was good and safe.
Fitretu was helpful, he did excellent work, he was able to organize everything very well in order to see all that we had on our full plan. He did his best for us.
The cost was more than reasonable, almost half than others, included everything, also photo fees.
Would definitely recommend Fitretu and driver Hayle.

I know Fitretu well and he has opened the Omo walley world to my family and friends in a way no other touroperator is able to. We went to remote places within the already unique and remote area. He gives you a deep insight into his people and his culture, being a bridge between such different cultures, ours and theirs but yet, caring so you get the best services and attention.
