Bale Mountain Lodge

This place is incredible. The lodge has had a tough go of it since 2020 but is still a beautiful place. The scenery is indescribable; very impressive mountains and forest. The kitchen staff has obviously been trained in American cooking👍. Our guide Ayuba knows the Bale like the back of his hand and showed us just a few of the many wonders including the Ethiopian wolf. The drive over the plateau is long and rough but undoubtedly worth it!

Totally awesome scenery! Cozy lodges. Basic amenities. The loss of business due to Covid and conflict in the country shows in the decaying buildings that haven't had good upkeep. We certainly hope this lodge stays open so others have the opportunity to experience this fantastic location! The delicious meals and style in which they were served were a highlight for our family. Great place to adventure and see monkeys, Ethiopian wolves, and other wildlife, jungle, waterfalls, native lifestyles, and climb mountains. Our guide Ayuba was the best! Told us lots of interesting facts about the park and country. The downside is that this fantastic place is hard to get to due to a deteriorating road. We will never forget this amazing experience at Bale Mountain Lodge! Definitely recommend!

Bale mountain lodge just reopened after 4 years of closure due to covid and conflict. Luciano the manager will do his utmost to ensure that your needs are met, and will provide information about trekking possibilities. The view and setting in the middle of nature is amazing. The staff is friendly and professional. The food is very good and clean. I very much recommend this lodge!

The Sultanate of Bale was a Somali Muslim sultanate founded in the Bale Mountains of the southern Ethiopian Highlands and Horn of Africa. It corresponds roughly to the modern Bale Zone of the Oromia Region in Ethiopia

Excellent stay at Bale Mountain Lodge. Hot showers were a delight after the most beautiful 21k run on the Sanety plateau at high altitude. Staff is lovely and professional. Great meals. Highly recommended!

Great lodge in the middle of Harena forest in the heart of Bale National Park.
Rooms are clean and well functioning (electricity and good water supply)
Hosting team is really helpful and welcoming,
Plus the project is trying its best to preserve this exceptional environment, at stakes due to increasing human within the park.
We really felt that staying there was supporting the preservation of the park.

Note that you need a 4x4 to reach the lodge, there is a 60km pista road to reach the lodge, not in good condition during raining season.

I have never stayed at this lodge but the owners Yvonne and Guy are friends who have gone a long way to establish a welcoming place for visitors. Set in a beautiful part of the Bale Mountains, adorable hosting by Yvonne and her team is something that wont be easily forgotten!

The lodge is situated in the Harenna rain forest on around 2'300m above sea level, in a quite and beautiful surrounding, inside the National Park. Most of the lodges are in the forest, a short walk from the main lodge. We enjoyed being out in the nature while having all the amenities (electricity, hot water, clean rooms, comfortable beds, free wifi in the main lodge). Very friendly, local staff. Social engagement for the development of the town nearby, Rira. Prices are higher than one might expect for the country, but it's all inclusive (breakfast/lunch/dinner/beverages; free tour guides during the day for hiking). We especially enjoyed the dinner, which was delicious. (Our stay was in June 2017, i.e. low season.)

Car and (highly recommended for tourists) an experienced driver are needed to get to the lodge. Around 2h 15min drive from the next bigger town, Goba (unpaved road across Sanetti Plateau, 4'000m above sea level).

Immerso nel suggestivo Bale Mountainn Park e punto di partenza perfetto per escursioni, trekking e passeggiate. Cottage con vista stupenda e stufa a disposizione. Non fatevi spaventare dal prezzo (alto per l'Etiopia, comprensivo comunque di cena, alcolici locali e colazione) ampiamente ripagato da un'atmosfera incatata, un'accoglienza di classe e pasti notevoli. Esperienza da non perdere.

Up Close With Nature

Tutto perfetto. Finalmente del cibo di qualità, anche a colazione. Location unica. Non concedo la quinta stella solo per la difficoltà di collegamento con il resto del mondo, per la totale assenza di wifi e linea telefonica (la proprietà potrebbe dotarsi di u collegamento satellitare, anche dato il caro prezzo pagato dal cliente per stare li)

Am Anfang der Vorsaison nicht. Wir waren Anfang Oktober und da war alles nur halbherzig. Die Außenanlagen und die Sauberkeit im Familien Haus gingen so. Personal war nett und das Essen sehr gut. Die Weinauswahl war auch top.
