Ähtäri Zoo

A really nice zoo in Winter. The pandas were sleeping but they woke up after a short waiting and went outdoors into the snow.

There are plenty to see during winter, but you better to have warm clothes, because it gets cold if you are spending 2 hours outdoors. Luckily someone had left fire in the fire pit so we could warm up. You can actually take your sausages with you and some hot drink!

It’s open only until 15:00, so you better get there early enough, but you don’t need to rush, because you can leave the tour later than the closing hour.

We will come back in Summer time for sure. I highly recommend this place 🐼👍🏻

One of the best Zoo I have ever visited. Not too many animals but super nice feeling to be in the woods. See different animals and have a nice walk. The Pandas are amazing to see and they bring joy and happiness!

Amazing, even in colder weather, some animals are active. Reserve at least 4h for a visit

Amazing experience!!! We went in winter season and we couldn't see bears, I think some animals were hibernating... only the Panda was the exception because they are in some big rooms inside and we could see them, it was a really nice experience to know the zoo. I recommend this visit in summer , although in winter the snow is exceptional and everything looks beautiful too....

It's like a beautiful walk in the woods with all these amazing animals, whose enclosures are as close to natural as possible. I would reccomend taking some barbecue sausages, cause there are a couple of magical places to sit down, grill, eat and enjoy the view.

Beautiful small zoo with nice animals. Unfortunately, the panda enclosure was closed due to mating season.
The farm is very nice for small children. Plenty of place to run around..

Go check out the famous pandas Lumi and Pyry plus the most comprehensive collection of Finnish wild animals in Finland. The local bears are almost as cute as their Chinese cousins 🐻

It was so nice to visit. We grilled sausages and got to see so many animals.

The zoo lies in a natural forest with some lakes. For the tourist just of the signs are in English. My personal opinion is that I think that the panda’s are getting more attention (and money) than the rest of the animals in the park. So that could be an point for improvement.
We stood on the Ahtari camping ground so we could walk in and out until 2000 in the evening.
We really enjoyed the beautiful zoo, so if you are in the area certainly visit the park.

As always a great place to go with the family. This time they had a special offer because of closed restaurants. They offered sausage that could be roasted at several lean-to shelters along the route.

Delightful small zoo with a lovely pine forest atmosphere. Large, natural enclosures for active and seemingly happy animals from the smallest mouse to the biggest bear.

A great zoo! The animals have plenty of space compared to other zoos so when you visit you really feel that the animals are happy there! Excellent mix of native finnish species (brown bear, lynx, moose) and exciting exotic animals like pandas and snow leopards. The park is large so even on busy days it is comfortable and it doesn't feel crowded. Excellent facilities with lots of toliets, cafes and a great shop. The on site hotel means you can make the most of it. Great place for someone who loves animals. I have visited a couple of times and is my favourite place on earth! Highlights are the brown bears and pandas! Great views of both!

Lots of animals, the pandas were beautiful aber my son really fell in love with the red Pandas. Sadly, since it was Winter, the bears and many of the other animals were sleeping but we still enjoyed our family time in the Zoo and the calm walk through the snow.

The animals really seem to be happy and content. The Zoo is clean and well laid out. Most importantly, we were able to spot virtually all of the animals, which is a first! A hidden gem.

It's a very nice zoo to get to know Nordic animals.
