I highly recommend this school. I had an Incredible experience studying at Mundo Spanish School for 4 weeks. My Spanish dramatically improved and now I can have conversations with people about many topics in Spanish. My stay with my host family was very nice and I was able to enjoy home cooked typical Guatemalan dishes every day. There are activities everyday during the week after class to experience the unique culture of antigua and neighboring pueblos. I was able to take trips on the weekend to Lake Atitlan, El Paredon Beach, and Acatenango Volcano. All three were absolutely incredible and I have the pictures ti prove it.

Mundo Spanish School has now been receiving us for the fifth time in Guatemala. We are a Danish upper secondary school, Silkeborg Gymnasium, and we are doing study tours to Guatemala (Antigua/San Juan del Obispo).
Mundo Spanish School has been our collaborator every time, and they have been arranging more or less our whole trip.
The last time 19 students have been studying spanish in the wonderful garden of Mundo Spanish School by competent and kind teachers.
Further Mundo Spanish School has been arranging homestay with warm-hearted Guatemalan families and a lot of interesting activities have been arranged by Mundo Spanish School.
We could not have been doing this fabulous trip to Guatamala without Mundo Spanish School - and we thank you very much for the partnership.

I had classes during a month at Mundo Spanish School and loved my time there. The classes are private which is the perfect way to really get to talk during the lessons. My teacher Axel was great. Most of the time we talked and practised the different verb tenses and vocabulary but we also did grammar exercises. In the afternoon there are activities proposed by the school. There is a great variation which includes history, culture and sightseeing of Antigua and its surroundings. For example we visited a coffee farm, the many ruins in Antigua, we did a chocolate workshop, a dance class and we also got to know more about how indigenous people live.
During my stay I lived in a host family. They were very welcoming and provided amazing meals. I felt much more comfortable and at home than in a hotel or an apartment.
I highly recommend Mundo Spanish School to anyone who wants to learn Spanish and also have a fun time with other students. Antigua is a great city to live in and I always felt safe even as a young woman travelling alone.

I spent 4 weeks learning at the Mundo Spanish School during my time in Guatemala. The classes were incredible - one on one, in a beautiful back garden and completely tailored to my level (beginner!) and interests. My teacher Aleida was so patient with me and I really noticed an improvement in my Spanish throughout the month. I liked it so much that I have opted to continue classes online now that I have left Antigua. The online classes are equally excellent (and affordable), and I look forward to continuing my learning with Mundo Spanish School.

Mundo Spanish School is by far the best Spanish School in Guatemala, they have an excellent staff, Freddy is a really good host and they help you with everything you need: transportation, books, rentals, travel, security

I had a fantastic experience with Mundo Spanish School in Antigua. I took two weeks of one-on-one classes with a friendly and professional teacher and I believe that my Spanish skills have improved.

During lessons, my teacher, Amanda, and I talked about topics that were more complex than I could imagine. For example, we discussed politics, consumerism, global warming and work satisfaction. I had to really think in order to express my opinion on these topics! We also played games with flashcards, such as "Ve a Pescado" and Memory, which really helped teach me verb conjugations. I hope to take lessons with her online soon!

The weekly activities are great as well! Latin dance lessons are offered weekly, although I did not attend. There were also cultural activities around Antigua. On the weekend, different options for excursions are offered, with a tour guide from the school. Fredy, who accompanied us on our weekday activities, is a very good tour guide and cares about the students in the school.

I wish I could have stayed longer than just two weeks. Many of the students at the school were learning for several weeks or months! I recommend this school to anyone looking to learn Spanish in Antigua.

Great school to learn Spanish with! Teachers are very knowledgeable and kind, the setting in the garden in Antigua is just lovely and there's free coffee, tea and water. Every afternoon they organise fun, educational and cultural activities that support local communities. They can also help to find volunteering opportunities. Highly recommended!

This was my second time at Mundo Spanish school. It was great to be back. The classes and activities were always interesting and my Spanish came a long way in four short weeks. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to learn Spanish while submursed in the beautiful Guatemalan culture!

What an amazing experience! I travelled with a group of 12 students in a school trip. Fredy was our guide and he made our experience absolutely incredible! He took us to several places and shared his knowledge with a contageous energy. He adapted himself and the activities to our group. I would for sure recommend Mundo Spanish School to anyone who wants to travel to Guatemala for a visit or to learn/practise Spanish.

To whom it may concern,

We, Silkeborg Gymnasium in Denmark, have arranged study trips with Mundo School in San Juan del Obispo in Guatemala for four years.

Every year the owners of Mundo School, Fredy and Lillian, have arranged a splendid program for us. We have traveled for 12 days with a class of approx. Twenty students in age 17-19 years and two teachers.

The Mundo School is located in the most beautiful surrounding in San Juan del Obispo. We had five days of one-on-one teaching from 9-13, where every student had an excellent teacher who engaged the students with a mix of conversation, grammar, and vocabulary exercises. The teachers were very accommodating and engaged with the students. A relaxed atmosphere was obtained when sitting under an umbrella in the green garden with a view of the volcanoes.

Mundo School had also arranged private accommodation at Guatemalan families. Every student lived in a family and experienced the Guatemalan way of living. Every student had their own room, with a bed, a desk, a closet, and a chair. The rooms were clean and reflected the different standards of living in Guatemala. We experienced outstanding hospitality, and every family was very attentive and caring. Every day the families served delicious and traditional breakfast, lunch, and supper, and it was also at this time of the day when the students talked and practiced Spanish and got closer to the Guatemalan culture.

Every day, Mundo School also arranged different trips to and events at local destinations. For example, we visited the local chocolate workshop, danced salsa, had a tour around Antiqua, and visited an Eco farm, and an indigenous women cooperative. For the weekend, we went on a short trip to Lago Atitlan, where Mundo School had arranged nice accommodation in Panajachel from where we visited different villages by boat on the beautiful Lago Atitlan.

Lastly, Mundo school also arranged for our students to do volunteer work for three days. From beforehand the students had requested the type of voluntary work they wanted to experience. Some taught school children, others worked on an eco-farm or in a panadería (bakershop).

The partnership with Mundo School has been excellent all four times we have visited Guatemala. The communication before our travel has been good and reliable all the way from the first preparations to the final visit. Fredy and Lilian have been tremendously helpful, and kind and we look forward to visiting again this coming September.

Kind regards,

Kristina Krogh (Spanish teacher) and Signe Meinicke (Head of Education)

I spent 5 weeks studying Spanish at Mundo and it was fun and challenging. When I first arrived in Antigua, I had a few schools in mind. I actually visited all of them and met with their students and teachers before finally decided to go with Mundo. They won me over with their responsiveness, flexibility, and the amount of attention they give to each student. Even with 4-6 hours of classes per day for 5 days a week, I was never bored. My teacher Jorge is very experienced in teaching Spanish and a lot of times he would anticipate my questions before I even brought them up.
The cherry on top - due to the pandemic, classes are taken place at their outdoor campus in San Juan del Obispo, a small yet charming pueblo where you can catch a good view of Fuego on a clear day, sometimes you can even hear the eruptions.

I studied at Mundo Spanish school for four months and had a great time! My teacher, Jorge Paredes, was fantastic and managed to keep the lessons engaging and enjoyable during the entirety of my time in Antigua. Fredy also worked hard to make any difficulties more manageable for his students. And my host family was wonderful, as each member was kind and accepting and provided a positive atmosphere! I highly recommend Mundo Spanish School!

Mundo offers quality Spanish instruction that can be delivered in a one-on-one format and can be tailored specifically to your learning needs. Instructors are experienced with speaking English during class and other interactions which is helpful to expand learning. I worked with Axel online for a significant length of time prior to doing an immersion in Antigua. It was well worth having these basic Spanish skills prior to living with a host family and taking classes in-person in Guatemala. Staff at the school take care to ensure your satisfaction during your stay in Antigua where there is a lot to see and do!

Mundo Spanish School has been an amazing experience. From the first phone call with Freddy, who is super friendly and helpful, I knew I would be in good hands. My teacher Jorge is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. After a month of in person classes and another month or two of online classes I, for the first time in my life, can have conversations with people in another language. And Antigua and Mundo will always have a special place in my heart as I now consider Freddy and Jorge and the whole crew my friends

Please note: Mundo has TWO locations. This one (San Juan del Obispo) + another in Antigua itself (next door to Nico Hotel). My review is based on my experience at the Antigua location.

The school: My two weeks (20h/wk) were excellent. My teacher (Jorge) was friendly and knowledgeable. Freddy (the school director) is a really helpful and effective administrator, and very friendly too. They were flexible when I needed to adjust my hours, and went above and beyond to help another student resolve a dental issue that came up. School setting is a beautiful backyard and climate is perfect for outdoor lessons (I was there in March but I believe it is nice regardless of time of year). There were other students to socialise with during breaks (there may be more ops for this at other bigger schools).

The town: from my view, Antigua is as safe as any Euro/US city, as are other places you can visit on the weekend (Freddy can help advise on this + parts of the country to avoid). Antigua is fairly touristy so quality (accommodation, food, etc.) is good but costs may be a little more than you'd expect. This also means there are lots of opportunities to meet other travellers but less opportunities to practice your Spanish unless you do a homestay and/or go to the SJdO location.

Our family of 6 (ages 9-40s) had a very positive experience with Mundo Spanish School. Fredy, the director, was organized, thorough, flexible and a wonderful host and guide. Each of us had excellent teachers. We enjoyed our home stay. We all agreed we learned a ton and the whole experience was one of the highlights of our trip to Guatemala. We highly recommend Mundo Spanish School.

Spent a month in Antigua, Guatemala this summer and studied Spanish at Mundo Spanish School. The 1:1 instruction was excellent. They were very flexible and accommodating. Fredy and Axel were great. They not only made sure I had a great learning experience, they made sure I had the information and support I needed to have a great overall experience in Antigua. I'll definitely return if I'm back in Guatemala!

I just spent a week at Mundo Spanish School. What a wonderful, thoughtful, and helpful group of teachers! School started at 8 each morning and I chose 6 hours of practice a day -- 30 hours for the whole week. By Friday I felt like I had strengthened my Spanish muscles and increased my confidence. I loved Antigua and had a fantastic time in Guatemala. The country is safe, and it is easy to travel there.

This place is so awesome I went twice and hoping to go again! I would highly recommend this to individuals and groups wanting to learn Spanish. Guatemalan Spanish is slow and clear, ideal for beginners, and Antigua is a charming little town with friendly people and a central park. Their weekend excursions are phenomenal and you get to go with all the friends you’ve been making at school (so you’re not alone). One-on-one sessions are very affordable and flexible to fit your needs. This is a hot spot for European and Americans to learn Spanish. I still keep in touch with my host family, they are some of the sweetest people I’ve ever met.

The first time, I went for 6 weeks over the summer before my sophomore year in high school. It replaced a whole year of Spanish 2 class and I came back way more fluent than my classmates who didn’t go and took a full year of Spanish class instead. I liked it so much I returned when I was 30 and found some of the same professors were still teaching! I had so much fun that visit too! It gave me enough confidence to pursue a minor in Spanish.
My next goal is to return and learn medical Spanish and visit old friends.

I highly recommend this school to everyone I know that wants to learn Spanish!

I enjoyed the time in the school. Nice teachers, friendly and helpful staff. Next to the varied private lessons, the school organizes a lot of fun trips around the country. Mundo Spanish School and Antigua Guatemala are very nice places to improve your Spanish language skills.
