I took a day trip from San Salvador to Copan ruins, and despite the long drive, it was well worth it. When we arrived at the ruins, we hired a local tour guide. Our guides name was Givani. He is very active in the archeological aspect of the Copan ruins. He is also very knowledgeable. He did his best to answer all of my questions. The site itself is absolutely stunning. Days prior to our arrival, the Japanese archeological team actually found 12 skulls in a mass grave by the ball court.
On a lighter note, there are many birds on the property. A beautiful place to birdwatch.

An incredible and unique experience. Do the full tour if you make it this far. The tunnels in their original design and just as much worth it as the museum in the end with a huge replica of one of the temples and countless originals. We had a well versed guide who spoke English and who gave us a great overview and was very helpful in many ways.

This is a must !!
It was very very pleasant, cold chocolate and hot chocolate were top notch, hot sauces were so good we bought 2 and they honey OMG !!!
They place was packed when we arrived, but the food was delicious, and they have samples of everything so you can try before you buy.
Things are bit pricey (like honey and chocolate and hot sauce) but is all worth it. Food is unexpensive thou.
Give this place 5/5 they have wifi but honestly I was so busy enjoying I didn't even had the time to connect.

I don't know how to explain how amazing this place is and only people that can appreciate it's massiveness, advanced building techniques for the 8th century, the energy involved in this ancient city you can never understand what it's like to witness it's glory. With only a small portion of the largest structures restored this areas boundaries went further into the woods than the 2.5 hours it took us to walk around the main area. While most of the structures outside the restored zone are mostly pile of ancient rocks now to our eyes. Imaging as shown on a plot map shows that they still have the main structure of the buildings underneath the leaves and trees that now cover them. Pics don't do this place justice and it's impossible to convey it any other way than going to see for yourself. Imagine walking through an area where anxiety Maya once lived. Breathtaking.

The most important Mayan archaeological site in Honduras, the Copan ruins is an impressive place to visit. It is a large site and will easily take 2 hours or so for a cursory tour. The unique hieroglyphic staircase consisting of 63 steps is a sight to behold. Bring a hat or umbrella for protection against the sun.

Great place, suggest to hire a guide to learn more about the history of this great place. The tour is about an hour or less, drive from Tegucigalpa is about 6 hours road is ok but be ready for lot of curves.

Quite popular tourist location. It's more interesting if you hire the tour guide to understand the history and meanings of the ruins. A lot more shady than I expected, many big trees provide shades. The mesesium is worth visiting for the scripture art. We enjoyed the visit.

A mystical Mayan ruin off the beaten path. Macaws flying all around made it even more special. To go to the underground tunnels, you have to pay in advance it at the entrance. It was absolutely worth it making the trek out here. Although it's not as impressive as Machu Picchu it has its own thing going on ... and I loved my time here. The vibes were just magical with all the Macaws around 💖

The Site is incredible. We have seen almost all the important Maya Ruins but it is again a big difference to the rest. This site offers the best range of steles from the whole Maya periods. Full of incredible details. The views from the main pyramid are to die for. An unbelievable extra are the macaws on the premises. We haven’t counted them but they are everywhere. So beautiful. Copan and the ruins are well worth a trip.
