Macaw Mountain Bird Park

What you pay for is to support the incredible work of the local community to save the macaws and toucans and other birds. Really impressed with the rehabilitation and you know they are releasing birds eventually as you see so many flying about freely. Heaps of information and delicious coffee at the café.

Feeding times are 8 AM and 12 PM! Come during these times and you can see the birds nearby descend to feast.

What a beautiful thing they are doing to preserve the macaw and bird population in the area. The location is in a tranquil area with a river running through the vicinities.
It was really cool to be up and close with these majestic creatures. You can pay some money to feed the birds as well and it was a very fun experience.

To note though you may be able to see the scarlet macaws chilling at the entrance of Copan ruins too but either way it was a great way to spend some time in the afternoon admiring and seeing the sanctuary's preservation efforts.

You can grab a tuktuk from the Copan Square to the sanctuary for around $2 each way at the time of this writing.

A must visit in Copan Ruinas. It is clear they are trying to do the right thing for these beautiful birds and it's very informative. Massive place and lovely to walk around. Good gift shop too!

Beautiful and well-kept bird park where you can discover many local birds. Due to Covid, you can't take pictures with the birds sitting on you anymore, but they've built a nice cenery where you can take good pictures with free birds. I think this way it's even better for the animals. It's definitely a must if you're in Copan and want to learn more about the local birds.

Wonderful place. Highly recommended to visit. Due to covid you can not hold the birds. However, you can get to them really close. They have different species of macaw and other birds. Very educational.

An amazing place that appears to be doing the right thing for wildlife. We loved this park and are happy to have supported them. 40 minutes walking from town or a 10 minute tuk tuk for 30L. A must when in Copan.

Really nice place. Birds are singing. You are not aloud to touch them because of COVID, but I still was able to let bird to sit on me while employees escape.

It is truly amazing how this place takes care of these precious birds. I enjoyed visiting and bird watching. The staff were friendly too, and spoke english.

There's a lot of different species of Macaw and tropical birds. There's a lot of informations about the species and their habitat. They take care of the birds and release them when they are able to fly and eat properly by themselves.

Beautiful place nested in the hills of Copan Ruinas. Several species of birds native of Honduras , but the most important and beautiful ones are the macaws , scarlet and green macaws . Excellent program of protection and release of macaws . Glad to see this birds been taking care of …. Can’t leave Copan without visiting it

An amazing place. Our guide Delmer Lopez did a wonderful job with explanation of all different kind of birds they take care of. It was a true pleasure to visit Macaw Mountain. A special thanks to Delmer who made it even more special.

I enjoyed my visit very much. You got to see those macaws and other birds very close and learn a lot about them

We had so much fun seeing all the animals. They have tons of different birds. You can see week old and month old baby macaws. You can get super close to free flying macaws to take pictures. The educational signs are in both English and Spanish. It is a nice walk by the river with tons of beautiful plants and flowers as well.

I would recommend a visit it this place, they are doing an amazing work in rehabilitating these birds and see them then be able to be released back into the wild it is just an amazing sight. Keep up the good work!!!

Cool spot to learn about all the parrots, parakeets, and macaws of Central America. You can even hand feed the birds!
