We can see the whole city of Gorontalo and Limboto from the fortress. The area was clean and well maintained. Amazing place to watch Lake Limboto.

Otanaha Fortress is located around 9 km from Gorontalo City. To get to the location, visitors can rent a bentor (motorized becak) or ride their own vehicle in about 30 minutes.

Otanaha Fortress is a witness to the history of the Gorontalo people's resistance against the Portuguese. According to the story hereditary to date, Otanaha Fortress is a historical heritage built by the Portuguese in the 15th century.

The buildings, which together consist of three fortresses, each have the name Yanki Otanaha Fortress, Otahiya Fortress and Ulupahu Fortress.

This fort was previously built as a form of cooperation between the Portuguese and the King of Gorontalo who was in power in 1505-1585 to fight enemies who entered Gorontalo territory, which in the end the Portuguese betrayed, when there was an attack from enemies the Portuguese nation did not help at all.

Then, the King of Gorontalo gathered his people at that time to drive out the Portuguese who had betrayed and finally the Gorontalo people succeeded in expelling the Portuguese and occupying the fort.
