Goa Kiskendo

I passed this place many times, but we never really visited. So we decided to go on a Sunday afternoon.

Surprisingly quiet when we arrived, but that's a good thing. We bought a ticket at the table, as the ticket office was closed.

Walking down the stairs there is a playing ground for kids. And 2 monkeys in a cage, this is not something I like to see. The monkeys looked healthy but bored.

Down the stairs, we came to the cave entrance and we got more stairs going inside. The whole cave has stairs or a good path and on some parts you need to need deep if you want to go further. We were surprised by the scale and length of this cave. There are lights, but not all of them are working, so you better bring a torch yourself as well.

There are some bigger chambers inside. As we had the complete for our selves we spend about 30 min inside. You won't find anything very special, but there are some unique rock formations and praying spots.

Outside you can read (in Indonesian) about the story of the cave. Also, there is a new theater being built next to it, for some traditional dances. It was filled with the main statue, but the entrance road wasn't ready yet.

So we enjoyed a cool afternoon here, it was pleasant as we were the only people walking there.

BIG -NO for the monkeys in the cage, but that's just my opinion I guess.

Altogether, a good place for 1 or two hours of outside activity.

i really love to visit Goa Kiskendo because there's a mythical story about Sugriwa Subali fight againts Mahesa Sura and Lembu Sura, and how's the cave has created. Sometimes you can watch the perform of Sugriwa Subali ballet, its like a theatrical dance to represent the journey of Sugriwa and Subali defeat Mahesa and Lembu sura. i suggest you to visit this place ans find the local guide to tell the whole story about the cave. Recommended place. 👍👍👍

Located in west part of Yogyakarta, at Menoreh Hills. It becomes as one of the charms of the Menoreh Hills.
The access to this place can use by two or four-wheeled vehicles. Besides using motorcycle, this area is also used as a destination for cyclists who want to explore the Menoreh hills.
When you Entering the landscape of this cave, you will be greeted with steps that become the story of the beginning of this attraction.
Tickets around IDR 5-10k, Local Guide 30-50k, Parkinh 5K.

Beautiful cave in Kulonprogo, Yogyakarta.
The location might be too far from the city center, but it is situated near the New Yogyakarta International Airport.
A worth place to visit while you're around Kulonprogo.
The cave is not too narrow nor having thin oxygen, yet it is quite big inside, even though there are some part of the cave that get lower area (which you need to bow down).
The price is extremely cheap, only Rp. 6,000/person (whether you're foreigner or domestic).
The facilities here are okay (not too good, not too bad).

Great place, even though I've never gone inside the cave (because it is really dark; you'll need a flashlight, and courage)
There is a guy renting flashligts though, so worry not.
