This place is simply amazing. I would give it 10 stars if I could. The staff is so kind, and they have the entire experience absolutely dialed in. If there is even a tiny bit of swell, then be prepared to surf a ton, as much as 3 sessions per day. Tons of waves around, and they know everything about all of them. The food is great and healthy, the umas are comfortable and quiet. This is an absolute paradise. Like a dream. Thank you Kandui Resort, I can't wait to return to see you all again!

Ah, Kandui Resort! The name itself sounds like a magical incantation that, when uttered, transports you to a land of surreal beauty and oceanic splendor. This is my tale, a non-surfer’s bewildered narrative of a place that’s as close to the Maldives as you can get without actually being in the Maldives. Imagine my surprise when I found myself in this surfers’ haven, armed with nothing but a penchant for dry land and a keen eye for the quirky and the marvelous.

Upon arrival, my eyes were treated to vistas so stunning, they could make a grown man weep tears of joy. The ocean views were like a live painting, ever-changing with the mood of the sky, and the resort itself was a lush tableau of vibrant greens. The grass, oh the grass! As green as an overzealous leprechaun on St. Patrick’s Day.

The pool? A liquid jewel amidst this verdant paradise, perfect for those of us whose idea of catching a wave is more metaphorical. The staff, a merry band of helpful souls, moved with the grace and friendliness of long-lost friends welcoming you home. The food, a delicious adventure, was a testament to the culinary prowess of the chefs, making each meal a discovery of flavors.

The villas, treehouses, and authentic furniture were like stepping into a storybook, each element telling tales of craftsmanship and tradition. And then there was the beautiful dog, a furry embodiment of the resort’s welcoming spirit, greeting each guest with a wag and a woof.

The Quirks and Quibbles:

However, not all was perfect in paradise. The breakfast, while nutritious, lacked the diversity one might expect from such an idyllic setting. One type of coffee, a solitary milk option, and a trio of cereals that seemed to mock my morning indecision. And the pastries? Oh, the humanity! The absence of fresh, flaky goodness was a minor tragedy in this otherwise delightful tale.

But the true comedic twist in the story of Kandui Resort was the sleeping arrangements. Picture this: three majestic double beds, each a fluffy cloud of dreams, all in one room. A setup that whispers “youth hostel vibes” rather than “luxurious seclusion.” It seemed a curious choice for a place that otherwise epitomized tropical opulence. Sharing your sleeping quarters with friends? A test of friendship indeed! Yet, in the grand scheme of things, a small price to pay for paradise.

The Verdict:

In the end, Kandui Resort stands as a beacon of beauty, a place where the ocean kisses the sky, and the grass is so green it puts emeralds to shame. Yes, it might cater more to the wave-riding virtuosos, and yes, the breakfast might leave a pastry-shaped hole in your heart, but these are but minor footnotes in an otherwise splendid narrative.

For a non-surfer like me, Kandui was an ode to the joys of simply being. Being in the moment, being amidst nature’s splendor, and being part of a community that knows the true meaning of hospitality. Would I return? In a heartbeat. For the views, the vibes, and yes, even for the quirky charm of communal living, Kandui Resort is a gem worth revisiting.

Had the best time ever. Staff went out of their way to make sure we are happy. We travelled with young children and everyone at this resort is so child friendly.Surf was epic, food amazing. Would highly recommend and we will come back again for sure

Heaven on earth would be an understatement. I had the best time of my life there.

The area is stunningly beautiful. Great place to bring the family. Beautiful white sand beaches and even for non Surfers plenty of stuff to do. Grab one of the Kayaks or SUP Boards and explore the nearby islands. Grab a snorkel mask, or simply relax on the beach.

The food was exceptional.

The waves: exceptional. Not only that but the crew knows exactly when and where to go. Theres all kinds of waves for each level and the crew will make sure you’ll get the best waves possible. By the way there’s plenty of waves that aren’t on the regular maps.

Kandui Resort is hands down the best resort in the Mentawais. Between boats and other land camps, I won't go anywhere else. They have incredible staff that caters to your needs. You want to surf the best spots when they are good, the boat crews make it happen. Ray is the man! Ok
