Castel del Monte

As lean and simple that it is amazing. Must see if you are in the area. The octagonal base and the eight stone/marble towers put this building in the group of most iconic and recognized buildings in Italy. Enjoy a quick visit supported by one of the guides giving tours every 15-20 min or with an audio guide, that you can collect at the entrance. Park the car in the big parking place down the hill. It takes 10 min walk on a nice step way or 2 min with the minibus leaving from the parking.

Castel del Monte entrance is free the first Sunday of the month. Parking costs 5€ and the bus to go up costs 2€ (including the return). I suggest you ask for a guide since the castle is empty. Amazing view from the window! The landscape is full of olive trees!

I love Castel del Monte, it is an unique castle. I think it is the only castle to have an octagonal shape with eight octagonal towers. There is also an octagonal court present in the center of the castle.
If you want to visit the castle make sure you come on time (check opening hours), there is parking and a bus service provided. You need to pay for the parking and the bus. It is also possible to walk up but it is quite steep and the terrain is not ideal. It is not possible to park at the top.

Even the drive to the place was so enchanting! It's a springtime, and the wild flower fields, the groves of blooming orchards, and trulli houses scattered in the valleys were a beautiful scenery leading to this unique castle. It is a special place. Have a comfy shoes as there is partly scenic hiking 20 minutes up to the castle. You can get a shuttle from parking, but only 2-way, though. We were not allowed to board to go only one-way back to the parking lot.

Such a fascinating and beautiful place. If you're in the area make sure not to miss it.

A mysterious castle from the 12th century, build by Frederick II. Very impressive structure and nice view, however no furniture or anything else inside the building. Car park is 10 min walk downhill , close to a restaurant. No public transport available.

Absolutely incredible story of this amazing architecture. It was a beautiful motorbike ride on the way there. Lots of history and local Italian spots to visit. Highly recommend.

Beautiful place on the top of a hill in a natural park. Puzzling castle never really inhabited and not build for defence.

The entrance to the "Castel del Monte" will cost you € 7 both by booking and by purchasing the ticket on the site, but it is better to check availability.
Do not try to follow your satellite navigator to the base of the castle but read the road sign , the road is closed for not auhorised people.
You need to park at the car park , it will cost 5 € for the car and 7 € for a camper.
From there you can walk for about 1 KM or use the shuttle bus for 1 €.
Keep in mind that the castle rooms are empty with no furniture and look more or less the same to visit it takes 1 - 1 hour and a half , but is is very nice and is worth the visit .

Beautiful castle located right on top of a hill. It's a bit of a walk to the entrance from the parking lot. However there's a bus service for a small fee.

Lovely landscape and view! The castle is amazing and is a perfect spot to enjoy a sunset and picnic. Is well organised, and the place can be visit from the outside till late.
Defiantly worth it to vist, there is also a really good restaurant near by called Monte Gusto.

Visited during low tourist season, hence very enjoyable experience. Drove up to the castle as there was no bus shuttle from car park. €7 euros to park at the restaurant parking space, however attendants left at lunch time and did not return (although they said they would return by 5pm to lock the car park).
If you have a chance, stop at the Piarulli vinery (via Castel del Monte, Corato) to taste some excellent wine from local grapes

Super impressive building with a lot of hidden frequencys and energy.

My 2nd time here first was 2019 January. It's a magnificent and beautiful castle, filled in rich history... Amazing architecture

A beautiful underrated castle. Taking the guided tour strongly recommend.

Was not able to visit it inside due to the online reservation that is required upfront. Nevertheless the architecture, the history behind it, mixed with the nature surrounding it - marvelous! Be advised that the parking is outside and from there for € 1,- per person you can take the bus that brings you within 5 minutes to the Castle. You can always take the hill by foot - depends on the day and temperature.
