We arrived on a very rainy night and were welcomed by a super friendly and professional staff. The various great choices on the menu made it hard to pick our favourite plates but with the generous help of the waiter we picked some great plates and he also helped us picking the right wines from the impressive list of Italian wines. After dinner one of the waiters gave us a ride back to our hotel since it was still raining heavily! We will be back here soon!

Throughout our 14 days' vacation in Laigueglia we unfortunately had dinner only once at this excellent restaurant. In fact it was the recommendation of a waiter in another fantastic restaurant in Laigueglia.
If we had had another week, we definitely would have gone there another few times. It is one of those restaurants, where you blindly roam your finger of the menu and you choose, where your finger stops. Anything is excellent.
After a great antipasto (may Lucullus pardon me, I can't remember it, but it was great !), I had a platter of fried fish. Very tasty, crisp and fresh. Not drowned in oily flour paste (as you may get it in restaurants mainly outside of Italy). My wife had prawns, which she claimed were among the very best she ever had. The fried fish platter race between "Il Pirata" and "Dal Saraceno" in Laigueglia would be a very tight one.
The dessert alone was so good that it would be worthwhile to have dinner at "Il Pirata" again. Again the name has escaped me, but maybe the photo gives you a bit of an impression.
In "Il Pirata" they also employ a sommeiler. It's necessary for them to have one, as their offering of wine is so huge. I was overwhelmed with all this information, variations, possibilities, tastes, bubbles or no bubbles, .... After I choose, and the sommelier came with the bottle, he asked if he should keep the bottle upright not to stir up whatever was on the ground of the bottle, or if I wanted him to turn the bottle clockwise. I pretended to be knowledgeable and asked him to keep the bottle upright. I wonder if I had tasted the difference, if I had chosen him to turn the bottle and stir up what lay on the ground of the bottle. Please, dear reader, pardon my ignorance. -
So "Il Pirata" is one of the "must go there" restaurants of Laigueglia.
