One of the most beautiful museums ever. The creativity of Canova, plus the atmosphere and the efficiency of the museum personnel has delighted our experience. Definitely worth to visit, especially when is cold and rainy outside 😊

a truly fascinating museum, all really well cared for, admission for groups costs 6 euros and it is absolutely worth it! if you get the chance take a tour here. walking in the museum you have the impression of walking in the house of Canova who was actually born here

Even if you don't like Canova, you'll ADORE this museum. Set in his birthplace and in an adjoining building, it contains a unique collection of the plaster statues that were then carved in marble by the artists' assistants in his Rome workshop, then finished by Canova himself. Museum guides are passionate and incredibly informative and will turn a visit to the gypsotheque into an amazing journey in time with details on Canova's life, techniques, and the events of the age when Europe was swept by Napoleon's tidal wave. Part of the collection and Canova's tools are on display in the artists' family home and birthplace. *note: if you like this kind of things, well hidden at the bottom of a display case on the top floor you'll find Canova's death mask, his shoes and stockings and even his toupee. I'm not writing this to spoil your fun, but because I'd missed them on my first visit*

Apart from all these good comments about the museum and Antonio Canova art, you can realise how he was successful and good at drawing and oil painting. With this ticket, you can have also discounts for other four museums valid for one year such as Casa Giorgione, Villa Maser

Beautiful museum full of plaster statues of artist Antonio Canova. The real marble statues are scattered around the world. Plus you can visit his home.

Great experience and private tour of the space with director Chiara. Would love to go back for the night time candle light tour.

Always a pleasure to come back and immerse myself into the world of the great Canova. Its chalk works are an evergreen to visit over and over again.
A side note is: if you would like english tour guides you need to call and book in advance, while italian tours are organized every hour.

People who don't know Antonio Canova will become his diehard fan after visiting this museum. You can see beautiful neoclassical sculptures made by him. Antonio Canova, like many of his contemporaries, considered the masterpieces of Greek sculpture, with the perfect bodies of athletes and the beautiful figures of goddesses, the highest level ever achieved by art. Lot of portrait sculptures are also there. You can also see the beautiful paintings by Antonio Canova here.

Wonderful museum with period furniture. The house he lived in is part of the experience. You can see how Canova developed and completed his pieces. The hall where some of his works are displayed is awe-inspiring. Take 2 hours to see everything, well worth the experience.

This was my 2nd time visiting the Canova Museum, the last time being about 20 years ago when my cousin introduced me to it. In the English-speaking world, you dont hear much about Canova, but in Italy, he was a very well respected sculptor in his day. His life is very interesting, and I would absolutely recommend this museum to anyone with even a passing interest in art/culture from a few hundred years ago. Admission was very reasonable (10 euros in October 2019), and that would also get you free admission to four other museums in the area (although our itinerary didnt allow us to take advantage of that offer). There is a small gift shop as well, where I was able to buy an English book on the art and history of Canova. Sadly, photos inside the museum art not allowed, but outside, on the museum grounds, there are plenty of picture-worthy items. Another nice aspect - this museum is off the beaten path, so you wont be dealing with throngs of other people. You can take your time and admire whichever pieces you admire most.

Came here for Canova, but was really impressed by Scarpa's architecture. I did not know Carlo Scarpa had worked on such a harmonious and interesting expansion of this place. I was captivated by the details and by the way he brought in light. The garden is amazing too, with a number of curious (and fairly photogenic!) plants and very italian-looking corners.
And then you can obviously go have an overdose of classical beauty watching at all the plasters from Canova, but you already knew that! 🗿

A modern museum about Canova's preparation works either in clay or plaster. An inner garden welcome you with refreshing shade in the summer hot.

Marvelous work. You have to ask specifically to see it. Its out in the country side. Amazing history. Ask for Gianluca Pellegrini as a guide. Fantastic restaurant near by with boar, horse meat, best food ever.

Underrated museum full of Canova's sculptures and process work, and a beautifully designed wing added by Carlo Scarpa
