Amazing experience to see the history of an ancient city. We only had 2 hours so we hired a private guide from across the street from the entrance to the park. The guide was a bit pricy but he was able to show us all the important locations very quickly and gave very good history lesson so I think worth the price if you are short on time. Otherwise you will just wonder around not knowing what to look for and or would take much longer than 2 hours to see the key features on your own. However I think you might also be able to find a private guide by yourself if you just ask around near the entrance and probably be much cheaper than at the agency. Look for people just standing around near the entrance because that's what our guide did when he was finished with us.

I had the opportunity to visit Pompeii and it was truly an incredible experience! Walking through the ancient ruins was like stepping back in time. The preserved buildings, streets, and artwork were absolutely fascinating. It's amazing to think about the daily life of the people who lived there centuries ago. Pompeii's rich history and captivating stories make it a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts. I highly recommend adding this historical gem to your travel itinerary!

An amazing historical experience, the park has different areas, all boasting different features and relics of ancient Pompeii. If you don't want to get a tour guide, at least pick up a map and hit up some of the highlighted sights. Bring some good hiking boots or shoes since you'll be walking on dirt, gravel, or stone. This place can get really busy and full of tours, so it's best to come on a weekday and a non holiday if possible.

Absolutely incredible. We declined the tours that were being offered, and although we would have perhaps liked to have had more information about different things (information boards were few and far between) it was amazing to just be able to explore ourselves.
I'd definitely recommend taking your own food and drink.

There is way more to this site than I even thought, so 5 hours of walking around was not enough time to see the entire site. I went in November 2023 on a rainy day and I often had blocks of the city to myself. Quite an eerie feeling.

You do not need to buy tickets in advance unless you plan on going in the summer/busy times.

Once-in-a-lifetime experience!!

It is a lifetime memory! Incredible experience, I am very excited we went there. There is so much to learn and to know about it and history. Prepare for a long walks so wear comfortable shoes and take some water to drink. We bought tickets in advance. Visited in April 2023.

A lot bigger than you think. It's amazing.
Took us about 5 hours to walk around & we didn't see it all. Had to leave as we needed a drink, so I recommend taking food & drink with you. However, there's only 1 toilet in the entire tour round. Although there are ramps for a few exhibits I would imagine you would struggle greatly with a buggy or wheelchair.

Amazing. Last visited as a teenager ten years ago.

1) the amazing House of the Vetii has reopened
2) you will need the Whole day and a guide book. Anything less and you do not get the full experience.

Amazing. Probably the best historical experience when combined with Herculaneum, Vesuvius and, most importantly, the Naples Archaeological museum.

Absolutely fantastic place to visit! I strongly recommend to allow half of a day there as there are sooooo many interesting sites that you don't want to rush. I wasn't expecting so much interest I had (they are just stones, aren't they? :) ). Extraordinary experience.

An outstanding place to visit. We went on a tour with CityWanders and would highly recommend it. We were broke into smaller groups off the bus and brought around the city. What makes Pompeii special is the way every day life is preserved. The street shops. The theater complex which reminded me of a modern convention centre. And the Spa which is like a modern one in many ways. We were very lucky to visit it off season and the crowds were very small.

We explored the historic city of Pompeii, where nine distinct areas boast ancient streets, alleys, amphitheaters, bathhouses, a gladiator training ground, villas, homes, museums, touching cemeteries and haunting tales of the lives and experiences of slaves in ancient Rome. Families with less than modest incomes or those facing poverty endured terrible living conditions. Life for the back then was like living in hell! I'm grateful we don't live in that era. Once more, it's difficult to fully capture the incredible architecture of the ruins through a phone camera lens.

This place is absolutely the best thing to do if you're staying at Naples. It's an hour train ride away, tickets are like $29 to get in, we didn't do a tour guide and it was very nice and a pleasant walk in through the past. Doing a YouTube guided tour after you wonder around the town is pretty cool too! Highly recommend. Would go again.

unique place, you must visit.! I have seen a lot of places and help in the world, but this one is completely unique in its size and grandeur, beautiful houses, frescoes, streets, a museum, a theater. You can see Mount Vesuvius from here. don't forget to go to the lookout tower. there is also a toilet and refreshments. the map is unnecessarily complicated, but you can get used to it. every couple of meters there are drinking fountains with good water, just like in Rome. I highly recommend a visit...
admission for under 18 is free, 19-25 only 2 euros, adults 22eur, every 1 Sunday a month is free for everyone.

We took a tour bus from Naples and it was a very long drive, I would take the train if I had it to do over. We did a self-guided tour- if you do this remember to download the Pompeii App and map/guide before you enter the actual site or you'll have a hard time getting anything to download once inside. We wandered aimlessly for most of the time, which was okay, but we missed out on some things I had wanted to see. The site is huge- much larger than I had expected it to be and the tour we purchased wasn't long enough, give yourself the whole day if you can.
Also, if you have a stroller or wheelchair the terrain isn't friendly, I saw quite a few people struggling to get around.

Truely mind blowing place. I was always fascinated by Pompeii, and honestly I would go again if given another chance. Would recommend taking a guide who can explain you about stuffs in detail. Also, you could take your own food, and drinks.

We had a guided tour through the site. It was raining so it was not very crowded. This worked in our favor as we were able to see the main areas without much wait time. It is so much to see here. If you have the opportunity to visit, I strongly recommend it. Wear comfortable walking shoes and plan sufficient time to explore.

I have been dreaming of visiting Pompei since I learned about it in school - a long time ago. We had a very knowledgeable guide. She was well worth the money. Even if you know quite a bit about the place, a good guide will make you know more. I want to come back to Pompei!

What an incredible experience - everyone needs to visit here! I'm not sure how long one would need to spend here to see everything... but it would be incredible to spend multiple days here exploring. We visited as part of a cruise excursion and it was fascinating. Learning about eateries and bakeries, homes, the bath houses, the modern amenities, etc. It was an incredible opportunity to get to visit and to learn more. I will be back someday!

It was stunning. Must visit place in Napoli. It is well managed, they provide audio guide too but you can also install the app on your phone and using your earphones. They provide free maps, and there are several tap water points inside the area.

Because the place is huge, make sure you plan your visit and travel. Pick things you want to see and hear the story. Careful with the uneven roads because they are all made from stones.
