Nakkawita Suspension Bridge

You'll be able to find this bridge on your way to Maliboda. It is a very old bridge, so you have to follow the instructions at the board before you walk in.

A now hundred years old suspension bridge built by the British in 1923 that still serves the rural folks .....

It sways a bit but an exciting place to be in as a first time visitor will get goosebumps looking at the riiverbed at the bottom of the gorge more than 100 metres down ...

I have visited the place many times so it's nothing much to me apart from it's museum piece value.

Bridge conditions are poor. Warnings are displayed not to use more than five people at a time.

Nakkawita Bridge is Old bridge over seethawaka river it length about 150m and 1m wide. It 5km near from deraniyagala town .

Villagers still using this bridge but I need to say you this Nakkawita bridge is very old be caution using this an also I not satisfy with this safety.

Nakkawita Suspension bridge is great place to feel nature in sri lanka and nice place to take nice photographs. I took some photos you can see the view of bridge.

According to villagers This area is not safety for swimming or bathing .

This bridge is a very old steel cable bridge which is made by more than 100years by crossing to kalani river sub Seethawaka river.

Bridge condition is getting poor now. But it is still usable.

Bridge is famous for wedding photo shoot.

The road from Deraniyagala to the bridge is in very poor condition. But a visit here is recommended.

The bridge has been constructed by the British in the 18th century. The 150m long bridge is said to be used to transport rubber, spices, coffee and other products across the river during the British rule.

It is still a mystery how the large steel structures used for the construction of the bridge was brought here in the first place. One villager told us that the British might have brought the steel along the river.

The locals still use the bridge. Good place for some nice pictures.

This is one of the brigde, which is still being used by locals, out of the available suspension bridges in Sri Lanka. Still the iron bars and cables are quiet strong. If you walk across the bridge, you can have a splendid view of the Seethawaka River which is flowing beneath the bridge. Also the scenic view of surrounding mountains add more colour to your visit.
However be carefull when you are walking on this. Because in some places, the iron plates are not fixed properly. Also do not disturb the locals who use this bridge frequently, since this is the only way to their homes.

Looks really old. It was good experience to walk on this. Can see great view from the middle of the bridge. When two persons on the bridge it swings and makes the heart beat double. Nice place to take photographs. As my opponent river is not suitable for bathing around this area.

It looks like an old suspension bridge but still it is used by the locals to cross the Seethawaka River for their daily activities. There is a beautiful view of the river from the bridge but be careful when cross the bridge, as there are some broken iron sheets..

A breathtaking view is inevitable here... A person can be stunned with pure amazement!! Definitely worth checking out when going through this area..!

Heights cable bridge in Srilanka. Road is bit difficult from Daraniyagala town. Beautiful location and you can bath also.

It's not in the best condition, due to old age... Still the walk across is amazing....

An old bridge on the seethawaka river.Villagers advice was not to go more than 10 people at once on the bridge.Because it is bit oscillating since fully made by cables. Access road from deraniyagala town is under construction .
