Pattipola railway station is the 62nd station on the Main Line, and is 224 km (139 mi) away from Colombo. It is the highest railway station in Sri Lanka with an elevation of 1,897.5 m (6,225 ft) high above mean sea level.[1][2] The station has one platform with a second track as a siding loop. All the trains that run on the Main Line, including the Podi Menike and Udarata Menike express trains stop at the station.

One of the most scenic railway stations in Sri Lanka. We traveled all the way from Colombo to witness the beauty in Pattipola and the surrounding area. The railway station was clean and well kept, making our arrival a pleasant one. This small village is filled with amazing and kind hearted folk. Mr. Mahatun of Pattipola village provided us with accommodation, and sincere thanks goes to him. The cold breeze, quietness, amazing sunsets and sunrises, and above all the people made this place, somewhat surreal. Memories were made, and we left with a good note of coming back one day!

There are 4 trains to reach pattipola from colombo fort. These are 5.55am, 8.30am, 9.45am, 8.00pm. Very cool environment and beautiful surrounding. And also very friendly staff and provided good sanitary facilities.

Pattipola Railway station is highest railway station of Sri Lanka and which is situated at border of Nuwaraeliya district. In earlier time it was situated at Badulla district. Pattipola is high 1892 meters above sea level. There is a place which is most highest in Sri Lankan railway is situated at near Pattipola railway station. That point is called Summit level and it is high 1898m above sea level. Summit level is at 3km to Ohiya side from Pattipola railway station. One of the main entrance to Hortan plains is at via Pattipola town and there fore number of visitors arive to Pattipola daily. There are 10.5km to entrance gate of Horton plains.

Kirigalpoththa and Totupola mountains which are situated near Pattipola and about 10.5km to Totupola mountain and about 21km to Kirigalpoththa mountain.

The highest train station which is situated in 1891 m from the sea level. Normally if you get on the Night mail from Colombo fort you will be here by next day around 4 am. IF you get off by here, you can go to Hortain plains which is 10km away from the station and to Ambewela as well. Even the station area is pretty cool with beautiful flowers.
