Sulamani Temple is a very popular place for tourists in Bagan, especially those looking for a sunset to remember. The temple at dusk reflects the reddish hues of the setting sun. The bricks of the temple become surrealistically saturated. Visit the temple, but also make sure to walk around it because the area is filled with smaller structures that are less known but definitely just as memorable.

This temple has some great paintings - well preserved. What was interesting to see was that there seemed to be two layers of paintings from different times - and some script as well. Detailed paintings of stories with boats and people - we didn’t have a tour guide so not sure of the story behind it - would recommend going with one for the full experience.

A beautiful, huge and very popular temple in this stunning and vast area. Get an old bicycle and just cruise around, admiring this spectacular place for day after day. Deep and rich sunsets after hot and dusty days are an experience not to be missed.

Sulamani Temple built in 1183, though it went thru damaged twice during earthquake in 1975 & 2016, it still stands beautifully with a lot of wall paintings in its interior believed to be drawn on in the 18th century. Also there is one part of the wall where the paintings clearly from an later period and different artist...small and detailed.. I find it has lots of Chinese influence. This is a must go temple if you want to see something different like the wall paintings. You can see lots of Buddha painting, sitting and sleeping. Also lots of paintings of people offering flowers to the Buddha. There are also paintings of Buddha sitting and surrounded by snakes.

The temple was being renovated already. U Kyi Pweit well known learned Monk from Old Bagan Period gained advanced study in Buddhist Tipitaka-Canon thoroughly. The famous Princess Thanbyin who may Lead and Teach Buddhist canon( Tipitaka) to junior monks had resided next to Great Sulamani Temple. This Tawra- forest Retreat Monastery Complex had wonderful storage of rain water and drainage to further consequences were found amazingly.

Absolute must-visit temple when in Bagan, a clear top-5 choice for me. The temple is huge, the architecture and craftsmanship is a work of art, and it is right in the epicenter of some of the most beautiful and historic temples in Bagan. Unfortunately when I went (May 2019) they were still in the process of repairing the temple after the heavy damage it sustained in the 2016 earthquake, but even with the scaffolding and the green tarp covering the top of the temple, it was still a thing of beauty

Big temple, free entrance ticket, good to spend time here, but we can't climb to temple to see sunset and sunrise anymore!

Near the temple there's a hill to watch and enjoy the beauty and amaze of mother nature, the sunset. Although there is way too much dusty, you will know later that it was worth to endure the dust once you see the awesomeness of Bagan's glorious view within the sunset. The hill is so-called Sulamani Sunset-watching hill as it is near Sulamani temple.

the place you must to visit in your life
I come here for 3 days, I experienced the greatest feeling in my life- you will feel like in the ancient movie, you can see the most beautiful sunrise and sunset on the temple. must rent the electric bike, so you can go everywhere and explore, must buy some wood stuff from local, really beautiful and memorable, I will come back in the future. 你可以騎著電動腳踏車在這個像是一千年以前才有的城市閒晃,你會覺得自己彷彿穿越了時空,真的是太美了。

Sulamani was built in 1181 by Narapatisithu (1174- 1211). This temple was known as "crowing jewel" and it stands beyond Dhammayangyi Pagoda.

The name of the Pagoda is similar to the one near Mandalay. Soodamani (சூடாமணி) is a Tamil name and could have undergone a change of pronunciation!

One of the famous pagoda in Bagan. Some of the kids are very friendly and helpful to us to shoot great photos. They know how to shoot beautiful. They have good knowledge about respective pagoda and can explain about that pagoda history very detailed. They are really amazing. They are not disturbing to the guests and they are not demanding how much they want to get for assistance from us. One of the good point and respect to them. All of Bagan kids near working in Pagodas, that is very good points from Bagan area peoples. Need to keep that kind of mindsets. Thank you so much that Kids for their assistance

It's been renovated because of the earthquake on 2016. But what I love the most is they still keep the authenticity of each place in Bagan

One of the top destinations in Bagan. Below photo was taken before the 2016 earthquake which damaged the top site of the pagoda.

The tall elegant late Bagan temple with wall paintings from 3 eras, Bagan, Konbaung and post Konbaung. Sadly, it was severely damaged in 2016 earthquake.
