Awesome spot to check off the bucket list! You have to take some hiking shoes. Invest in some if you don't have any. The food that was available at the parking area was amazing. All the food was hand made and from scratch right in front of you. The hike is not bad but might be challenging you have some knee injuries. The ruins of the chapel are surrounded by dried up lava and beautiful to see. You can see the volcano in the distance along with other hills. The volcano is not at this sight FYI. It is located further out.

Took a horse ride from town, although I could have easily walked. Horse was super fun though, just felt bad because I'm a big boy and it was a bit hot. Made it to the church site, and saw some local cooking. Try to bring some money to buy a snack here. Climbed around the place, although I didn't risk going on the top center. There's a sketchy corner where some could make the leap. Crazy shrine inside. Don't miss this one.

The trip is long make sure to take the horses 🏇 and shoes that can withstand sharp volcanic rock there's lots of it. The earlier the better, there's less people arrive.... To arrive here take a taxi from uruapan to angaguan the charge for a local person was 50 pesos for us, there the horse was 250 pesos per person to the volcano, it's about an hr to arrive there. There's food stands right before arriving at the church site.

Interesting experience seeing how a volcanic eruption can destroy and cover a whole town in lava; also how the only structure left standing was the church. Be ready to hike because the only way to get to the church is by climbing over lava rock. Also, ask about the nearby volcano, just be aware that you will need a vehicle that is off-road capable as there are many sandy/loose area and good amount of terrain change. Overall, would recommend.

Its a great place to visit you can actually walk on the volcanic rock and go down to the altar witch was intact by the lava. Kids will enjoy it

It can be difficult walk and maybe boots would be required but it is accessible and nice to walk around.

It's a rough trek up to the church but we'll worth it. Pure history.

Drive there from Zacan or else it's a long walk (or horse ride) from Angahuan.

Nice little hike to the ruins, dirt road to get there is dirt and uneven rocks. Would reccomend to take a truck or something that is somewhat lifted. Nice views and nice people.

It's a must see if you are in Michoacan. Gorgeous views. There is quite a bit of hiking, so be ready. But it is so worth it.

Neat almost unreal historical place where a town use to be before the eruption of the Paricutin Volcano in the 1950's.
