awesome hosts, cool historic house, fair prices, and fantastic food. Seriously, the food was the best I ate in Nepal. Very glad that I stayed here. Check out the nunnery and monastery if you got time (easy walk from red house).

I only stayed one day at the Red House and I was impressed by the fine details and overall Hymalayane design of the lodge. The room was spacious, traditionally decorated and facing one of the hymalayane peaks. No heating but a convenient heater for the mattress. Food was exceptional and homemade. I really appreciate the care and efforts that went into making dinner and breakfast. The location is remote and the front face of the lodge a bit dissested. But once you step into it, a warm wild berries infusion welcomes you along with the hosts.

Kagbeni's charming and historical Red House is the finest accommodation in which I stayed during my three weeks on the Annapurna Circuit. Recent renovations add comfort while beautifully complementing and highlighting the traditional architectural features and artwork. If you ask him nicely, then the manager will show you all the nook and crannies up and down mysterious stairs and hallways, revealing ancient Khampa (Tibetan) weapons, cookware, and other articles, much of them still in use. And behind the most unobtrusive, unsuspecting curtain sits a large, ancient Buddha statue, Tibetan scrolls, and more artifacts. The guest rooms are lovely, and many of them have large windows facing Dhaulagiri Mountain, the world's 7th tallest peak. The restaurant serves excellent food. It was a privilege to shelter in such a special place.

Ravin, the manager, was a great host and I enjoyed staying in one of Kagbeni's last traditional houses. He gave us a proper tour of the building and was of great company through the evening. The rooms were very comfortable and the dinner was tasty. I can only recommend this hotel to anyone planning to stay in Kagbeni.

Spent 3 nights staying at the Red house whilst exploring the area with friends and family, the rooms were perfect, the food was amazing, especially the breakfast and dinners we had each night, though the biggest call out is the hosts, Rover the hotel manager could not do enough to make our stay special and enjoyed his company in the evenings as we all chatted around the fire, great hospitality always make the prefect stay and I look forward to our next trip back...

A very cozy and warm hotel, electric sheets in the rooms, a good stove in the dining room, you can ask to light a fire. There is hot water.

The Red House is an exceptional building with great rooms for guests and spacious communal areas exuding history. The food was outstanding, including a complimentary garlic and vegetable soup on our second night that was utterly delicious. But it was Ravin and Ganga's hospitality that made our stay so special giving us their undivided attention for most of the second evening to give a fantastic insight into modern Nepali life. This guest house represents great value for money and when we return to Kagbeni, which we absolutely will, there can be no other option than the Red House!

The opportunity of travelling to lower Mustang (Jomsom & Kagbeni) was not be missed especially when had to push my travel plans in 2022… Upon landing at Pokhara airport were greeted by Santosh Ji and his red shiny Scorpio…. He prepared us that the journey is going to tough as he was concerned about my 5 yr old cause there was a good approximate 50km off roading ahead…. Little did he know that the little rascal was more than fine as he did not had to drive. The journey was a quite rough but after reaching Jomsom the tiredness just seemed to go away due to the perfect dry landscapes, apple orchids, snow covered mountains lying above and calmness of the place….. The next day was filled with touring various spots (Dhumba Taal, Muktinath) and finally landing ourselves at Kagbeni.
Well the entry to the lodge intrigued us with 3 different entrances, the wall paintings, interior furnishings and overall the feeling of being in an old heritage building….We were greeted by smiling faces of Ravindra bhai, Sunita baini who made our stay beyond expectations…. Ravindra asked us to take a stroll of the village and pointed all the history behind the village and the lodge itself…. The lanes of the village were very clean and no matter whether we turned right or left we never seemed to be lost as it lead to 3-4 exits/entrances…
Later at night Ganesh dai with the help of Sunita cooked us a scrumptious meal simple but yet full of taste … no wonder they say that the roots of thakali is near there.. Followed by dinner was a very interesting conversation with Ravindra about the history of Kagbeni and the 11 other villages and the lodge itself which in itself had some very interesting facts and The Maitreya Buddha..

Overall a more than wonderful experience of Jomsom and Kagbeni which was made special by Ravindra bhai, Ganesh dai and Sunita baini at Red House…. I cant wait to get my family back there to visit further to Lo-Manthang (Upper Mustang)… Thank You guys and wish to see u in the future

By far the best hotel/lodge of the Annapurna Circuit. Very historic place, but nicely updated to include solar power and generator, so when the rest of Kagbeni is dark, Red house still has power and WiFi. Owner and manager were super cool and stayed up to have a late night beer with me in the kitchen. Little pricey at 2000 NRS, but will worth the luxury.

Incredible place to spend the night.
The building is over 300 years old, sprawling about over a few floors.
Great mountain views from the roof.
Lovely, friendly and helpful staff.
Good food.
Wish we could have stayed longer!

The most expensive and luxurious place we stayed on the trail. Modern attached bathrooms. Clean and fresh sheets and blankets. Incredible roof top views of an amazing medieval city straight from Game of Thrones.
The staff were understandable skeptical as we turned up. Dusty, stinking and sore after the descent from Thorong Pass. We looked like (and are) cheap trekkers looking to crash, but after agreeing to the 2000 rupee a night charge the staff were more than hospitable.
Found out after arriving that the travel sites were charging more than double to stay here. So just rock up and try your luck. Definitely worth $AUS25 not $AUS45 as on cheapest booking site.

Red House Lodge is the best place to stay in Kagbeni if one seeks a classic experience in the aged mud-walled town. The iconic red house was once a monastery established long ago. Our room was comfortable, sunny, and decorated in the local style. The food and drink were great, and the inn manager and his staff were most accommodating. I even meditated at sundown in a temple room with a golden Buddha and other icons with a resident grandmother who opened it for prayer. A remarkable experience. Highly recommended.

A remarkable restoration work of an ancient merchant mansion in this former trading town of Kagbeni. Truly an architectural gem. If you wish to experience how living in a traditional Tibetan house this is for you.
