Great place to visit. Once you get to the back of the temple (relative to the door) there is a building with a huge prayer wheel in the front porch. Be sure to go up the stairs of that building for a better view.

Also, if you turn in right by this building and walk down the main road, you'll end up at a really cool buddhist monastery :)

Beautiful and colourful Buddhist Shrine. Those Buddha Eyes on top of the structure are stunning in every possible meaning.
Lots of locals visited this temple to pray, meditate, or just to be blessed.
It's a circle shrine with outer and inner parts, you'll see monks walk clockwise around the shrine while chanting mantras, a very interesting sight to see.
Do spin the prayer wheel when you visit, blessings may come in any form, and also it's just so much fun to do 🥰

Wonderful stupa as well as a sacred center for Tibetan Buddhists. People walk around-in circle - , 3 times usually, to show their devotion, as a way of calming the mind and accumulate merits.
A must in Kathmandu.

Listed in world heritage list back in 1979. The stupa is a historical pilgrimage site for all the Buddhists around the world. Its white dome and golden spire are breathtaking, and visitors can join locals in prayer and meditation

Although its always busy, at the same time one can feel the inner peace. Lots of cafes and resturants that offer various cusines. Not all places offer great meal but the vibe and the view is amazing.

Also has a bakery with good quality, freshly baked treats.

Visiting the Buddha Stupa in Kathmandu was a truly enriching experience that left a lasting impression on my soul. The majestic presence of the stupa against the backdrop of the Himalayas created a serene and spiritually charged atmosphere.

The architecture of the stupa was awe-inspiring, adorned with intricate carvings and adorned with prayer flags fluttering in the breeze. The spiritual significance of the site was palpable, offering a sense of tranquility and introspection as I walked the prayer wheel-lined path around the stupa.

The vibrant colors of prayer flags, each carrying heartfelt wishes, added to the sacred ambiance. Pilgrims circled the stupa, spinning prayer wheels and chanting mantras, creating a harmonious symphony of devotion. The panoramic views from the stupa provided a breathtaking panorama of Kathmandu Valley, enhancing the overall experience.

The surrounding market, with its array of stalls selling religious artifacts and traditional crafts, added to the cultural richness of the visit. Local vendors offered warm hospitality and insights into the significance of the stupa in Nepalese culture.

However, the experience was slightly marred by the presence of persistent hawkers trying to sell trinkets. While understandable in a tourist destination, it occasionally disrupted the peaceful atmosphere.

In conclusion, the Buddha Stupa in Kathmandu is a must-visit for those seeking spiritual solace and cultural immersion. Despite minor inconveniences, the profound beauty and spiritual energy of the stupa make it a captivating destination that lingers in the heart and mind.

Spiritual circular place. Many cafe and restaurant also there. Wish I could have some background information of it so that I felt more of them. 2 hour goes really quick. You can see mountains beyond the town on the top floor fo some cafes(e.g. roadhouse)

It is undoubtedly my absolute favorite place for basking in the tranquility of a serene environment. Those who cherish peace and solitude would discover their perfect moments during the early morning hours, precisely from 6 to 7 am. You can savor an array of delectable food items, explore and purchase authentic Tibetan products, ignite fragrant incense sticks to enhance the ambiance, and engage in heartfelt worship.

Famous Buddhist stupa of Kathmandu.
The campus is very huge and contains many restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops.
You can climb on the nearby temples/buildings to get a better view of the Stupa.
There is a nominal entry fee which you need to pay. It is less for SAARC countries.
The Stupa is a bit far from the city center, you can easily get a taxi/bus to the same

Busy, enthralling, otherwordly - these are the best 3 words that I can describe about the Boudhanath. Though this UNESCO heritage site is smaller than the other historical sites in Kathmandu, this place is probably the most crowded among them all as it is a sacred place for Buddhists. And it's the largest stupa of them all in Nepal as well. I observed people are walking and circling the stupa on a clockwise direction while saying their prayers loudly and clueless tourists like me just follow their lead, chanting my prayers while taking hi-res pictures of people from my Ricoh GRIII and IIIx without them knowing (very stealthy cameras these are).

And it's not only about the stupa, mind you, but the surrounding cafes, retaurants, and shops that encircles the stupa make this a unique place: no other cities in the world have this special arrangement wherein you can have your coffee or dinner after encircling the stupa saying your prayers :)

First time tourist in Kathmandu? Then this should be in your priority list of must visit places.

Boudhanath Stupa has never failed to consistently inspire wonder in me. The magnificent stupa stands tall and transcends time, enveloping the air with tranquillity. This sacred site is not just a visual delight but also an enduring spiritual legacy of Buddhism. However, it would have been wonderful if the sacredness of the place is preserved without the intrusion of various shops. This might also make the place less crowded.

Honestly looked more majestic than I imagined it to be - there’s a certain kind of serenity and charm to be just walking in the area. There’s plenty of cute souvenir stores around the area too… oh by the way there’s a lot of pigeons in the area….

It's a great place to visit, it felt really nice to walk around the stupa in a clockwise direction. Interacted with the Tibetan monks inside the monasteries located in the premises and got to learn more about Tibetan Buddhism and culture. Do not forget to visit the free Himalayan exhibition museum, which is included in your ticket, plus there are guides present inside who explain to you the importance of the displayed artifact and their historic and cultural significance.

This place can't be missed if you are roaming around Kathmandu. Being one of the UNESCO world heritage sites it attracts tourists in massive numbers. The ticket price for SAARC countries costs 100 NPR. There is a beautiful market area located around the place and lots of hotels for dining and accommodation are also available.
