Amazing Roman ruins with beautiful mosaics, roads, extensive infrastructure, and so much more. Wish they received more funding to update this incredible archaeological find of the history imof the Algarve. We love to bring visitors here!

Amazing little site. Very interesting and beautiful surrounded by wildflowers. Only five euros for four of us which seemed exceptional value. Very much enjoyed it.

It's definitely worth a visit. Not far from the city of Faro and only €2

Worth a quick visit if you’re driving through the area! The ruins are extremely well-preserved and the mosaics are beautiful. When I went, there were only two other people on the entire site.. This place is kind of a hidden gem!

A very suited place for a short excursion and history lovers. This ruin of ancient Roman times includes a small but sufficient one-room museum to provide you with some background information about the place and the time when the original villa was built, before you explore the excavation site outside. Unfortunately, the info plates outside are sun bleached and therefore incomprehensible, which is why I recommend to see the museum before and take a photo of the map inside before you go outside. The 2€ entrance fee is very price worthy for what we've got here and it was much more worth it than the nearby renaissance palace!

Very eye opening and inspiring place. Amazing to see the history underneath us.
Almost sad that they aren't slightly more protected but it is great to be so up close and personal with a part of history that is that old.

The excavations of the Roman Villa that was inhabited from the 1st century AD onwards during the whole Roman period and beyond are of great interest!
The site is situated at the outskirts of the village Estoi amidst orange groves, and cypresses, which adds to the special, quiet, atmosphere, beautiful mosaics, you can really go close to look at them, the remnants of the main building are built over by a house from a much later period (17 century?). Additionally, a small exhibition with more explanations is beside the entrance, all that for a modest fee of 2 Euro! Unfortunately they ran out of brochures in English. Great experience and well worth a visit!

Well preserved Roman ruin only a short drive from Faro town centre. It was certainly a highlight, I particularly enjoyed the fish mosaics and the Roman ruins preserved inside the 16th century house.

I am always amazed at what they find at the excavations. This had some amazing floor and wall murals, mthe most in such good condition on the ruins we visited on our trip. they need to update the signs telling you what they believe the property they are signing so can see them. Amazing old 15th century farm house, that they have dug the floor out to find the roman building underneath, showing that they had used the walls possibly of the roman dwelling.
Give yourself an hour to look and be aware of the closure between 1 and 2.
At €2 each it was the cheapest ticket price and would have happily paid more for what was being that door.

Very interesting site. Entrance for only 2€. Recommend Carlos the tour guide whom gives more information about the place. A lot of mosaics to see in good condition. Unfortunately there is a lack of information about each place. Would love to see a before picture to have an idea of how the place was before.

A short walk out of Estoi (about 1/2 mile?). Very interesting. Quiet (We were the only ones there). Has a small gift shop and the all important toilets. Beautiful day and the site was thriving with lovely smelling wildflowers. Take a bottle (water or otherwise) and a picnic. Remember to take your rubbish away with you though! Wear stout shoes or something with grip as the ground is a bit uneven. It's good to see other old ruins other than when I look in the mirror. On the way back stop at the Com Tradicoes snack bar in the square opposite the church for a light bite and a refreshing Maceira brandy!!!

Together with a small information centre this place is intersting. I recommend strongly to buy the information book for 5 Eur and read it before the visit. Then you can see on site many more things as when you just stroll there unprepared. For me it was worth a visit.

Had an interesting conversation with the receptionist about why we as humans have almost lost our sense for proportions and beauty within a century? It has certainly also something to do with the loss of quality (and pride?) in craftsmanship but I rather would pass the ball towards the architect's turf.
Replicating the past as in using the history as a huge quarry and copy and paste whatever suits you, isn't a great option either. It's a real dilemma!
P.S.: I am in the architectural field for more than 40 years...
