Penela River Lodge & Restaurant

I had a lovely experience. The place is peaceful, the decoration is simple (didn't went to the wc so I can't really tell) I guess it could have some more british elements but it's okay and THE BEST THING was the service and the people.
Food wise it's not gonna be a groundbreaking experience, but it sure gonna be a well put together meal. I went there with my family for my birthday and we all asked for different dishes (they had 5 available, we asked for five AHAHAH poor cooker). We atill asked for 5 coffees and 2 desserts (for me, THE ABSOLUTE BEST expecially the brownie). They still gave me a piece of cake to celebrate hahahah.
I will go back but maybe just for a coffee and a cake (just because fried food is not my fav thing).
The rage for person was 12,4€ which I think it's amazing.
Highly recommend.

Delightfully wonderful. Stunning views, peaceful, intricate flavours and the lovely Octa wines. Planning to make many, many more visits and sample the entire menu. Staff very helpful.

Our second visit to this lovely place. We found it to be friendly and cosy. Sunday roast was lovely, the gravy was exceptional ( I'm a gravy lover) The staff were more than helpful. The owners are very accommodating and all the food we have tasted so far is full of flavour and hot. Well done and thank you. We will be back. 🙏

We had fish and chips beautifully prepared. There was a complementary assortment of sauces to die for. And the apple pie and coffee were the best in a long time. We just moved into the area, and we will come back often.

What a lovely Restaurant and lodge in Penela. We enjoyed a delicious meal here with carafes of Vinho Verde. The location is excellent with indoor and outdoor seating. The portions are generous and the owner and his team are all wonderful and friendly, it feels a real family enterprise. We all enjoyed different meals and the service was friendly and efficient. Thank you for a wonderful meal, we will be returning and recommend eating here. The view is wonderful too, and there is parking.

We we're well fed, needed doggie bags for the excess. Plate of the day8.50€. starter of bread olives chutneys, soup, chicken casserole rice and salad. Pudding a unique cake well presented with custard and cream.

Visited for the monthly market. Interesting assortment of products for sale. Very friendly stall holders.
Some of the food on offer is outstanding.
There's a very nice sense of community and I felt very welcome.

If you like good British food, the is the place to enjoy it. Sunday roasts to Fish and chips, it's all here and all top quality. Friendly Staff, outside and inside seating in a well designed restaurant.

Great food and very friendly hosts and customers, we were made to feel very welcome and had a very enjoyable evening.

Food is always good. Today we went for the Sunday Braai.... Note BRAAI. The mielie pap was IWISA... Good old SA brand. The tomato relish for the pap awesome and the boerewors equally good. The desserts were very good too. The entire meal for two, excluding drinks was 30 euros. Do not need to eat for another day or two.... Feel like an African python.

We had a delicious fish & chip lunch here recently (Nov 2021). Home-made beer batter; moist & tender hake; lovely home-made tartare sauce. Great value too!

Both the owner & staff are warm & friendly & so helpful.

Highly recommended!

Nearest thing to a pub in many, many miles. Lovely people, good beer, good food at fair prices. Fish and chips as good as any I've had from Yorks/Lincs. You'll need to bring an appetite.

Excellent Sunday lunch in great surroundings. What could be better than roast beef, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and 3 veg - all that and a starter of leek and potato soup and desert of chocolate sponge and custard. Best meal my wife and I have had in Portugal for many months.
So you Brits if you want a great Sunday lunch you know where to go. The beers are good also. WELL DONE!!

Great place to eat . Lovely people ,amazing food,. Children friendly, very comfortable and cozy,, can't wait to go again.rhubarb crumble and custard was perfect.
