This tourist office will be your starting point to visit the beautiful Tamanique waterfalls. Depending on the number in your group, it can range from $7 to $15 (solo) to have a guide lead you to the falls.

I would describe the hike as moderate if you are somewhat active. You first descend down gravel and some steps to the starting junction of the falls, before going down further to actually swim and admire them. Waterfall #3 is the most accessible while #4 is slightly more challenging but worth a visit.

Be sure to carry a small towel and preferably shoes meant to navigate rocks and coral reefs. If you aren’t a strong swimmer like me, these will definitely help when you’re splashing around or swimming in the falls.

Our guide was friendly but the word “guide” is a misnomer as there was no education about the area itself. This may partly be due to not speaking Spanish but it would’ve been nice to get to know them or hear a bit of the falls history and sustainability efforts.

If you are calling a driver to take you to Tamanique for the day, best arrange a round trip beforehand so you aren’t stuck in town trying to find your way out.

The falls are a must if you are by the coast or even in San Salvador.

Great hike and falls. Well worth the $7 for the guide too, he showed us where to jump from at the various falls.

The hike itself covers more elevation than I was expecting but it’s not too strenuous. There’s plenty of shade along the route as well, we began the hike around 11am and were fine.

Not for the faint of heart but beautiful place to visit. The hick back up was extreme. Make sure to carry light weight and have plenty of water.

This place is beautiful. We read that the hike is considered "mild", well let me tell you, it's far from mild! It was pretty tough for me and my daughter, who do a little hiking. Our host was Jessica, and she was the best! She was patient and kind, she knew the routes, and gave us an amazing experience. It's best to have a jeep, 4 or all wheel drive to get to the beginning of the hike.

The hike is not easy. There is a lot of incline and rocks. If you are in decent shape you can do it with no problem. I recommend water shoes as your feet will get wet. There are a total of 4 waterfalls with one you can jump off from. It's about 4-5 meters high. Dermy our tour guide was great and went at a good pace. Also she retrieved my Fitbit watch!! It fell off after I jumped from the cliff. I really thought I lost it but she did not give up and found it! As for cost it varies. We paid $6 per person. Bring cash!

There's 7$ entrance fee, includes mandatory guide. You have to the tourist office in Tamanique town first to pay and from there you will go with a guide. it's about 40 min walk.
There are 4 waterfalls, #3and 4 are bigger and beautiful.
You can jump down from one of them.

Fantastic experience! Here are a few tips:
1. Pull up to the curb at the building in the picture, go inside and ask for Abel (pictured). He is the best guide and will direct you where to park. If you don't have a truck or a car with clearance, you might ask him to park in a parking lot as the road down to the hike might damage your car. If you have a truck or car with clearance, he can take you directly to the entrance of the hike so it's easy to get back in your car at the end of the hike.
2. Go early in the day. The hike is doable if you are in decent shape but it is strenuous and is more difficult in the afternoon.
3. Visit the town of Tamanique afterward. It's a cute town and is very clean. There are a few restaurants and stores with drinks.
4. If you're inclined, give a nice tip to Abel. I think he takes two groups a day so your tip is a nice gesture.

The visit to the waterfall was a wonderful experience. Our guide, Raúl, was excellent. However, I would caution that if you are not in good physical condition, it is not for you. The hike down was a little dangerous. But, the hike up is at times almost straight up a mountain. The waterfalls are gorgeous. We loved swimming there. Awesome adventure!

Amazing trout guides! Cascada Tamanique is beautiful! Be sure to bring at least 1-2L of water. The hike isn’t that bad going down, but going up will knock the wind out of you! So worth it though. Highly recommend!

Beautiful waterfalls, crystal clear waters and our tour guide was amazing.
Highly recommend anyone to drive down to a closer entrance as it'll save you 1/2 the walking trail. Will need 4x4 to get to it due to rocky terrain.
Cost is 7.25 for three or more people
$10 for a couple
$20 if alone

Tour guide is NOT optional but we could care less - worth it.

Super gorgeous waterfalls! Definitely worth it. I loved swimming and jumping off the smaller waterfalls! The hike was mildly difficult on the way back up after hiking down to the waterfalls but it was manageable with a few rests. I highly recommend if you’re in tamanique/el tunco/libertad. We rented a moto for $25 a day from el tunco and took the easy 40 min drive to tamanique. Be sure you stop by the tourism office and get a guide before you go!

It's an amazing place, really beautiful and great for a good swim surrounded by nature. The price seams steep and your obligated to go with a guide, but they are extremely knowledge and have gone to great lengths to conserve, keep clean and safe for everyone. The money definitely goes to supporting the local community and the area itself.

Amazing waterfalls, very refreshing! There are three possibilities for jumping; ~5 to 10 meters. You have to go with a tourguide (@tourist office in Tamanique), costs around 8-15$ (depending on size of the group, 15$ for solo-traveler). Hike down is ~30min, up is ~45-60min (depending on your level of fitness, it's pretty steep).

I'll never forget this place. I'm American, so you don't get many of these where I'm from. Not saying these aren't in America, but specifically where I'm from. And if there are, the water is too cold to enjoy.

This place was perfect. Now it's not like one of the hot spring waters is that you used to from other waterfalls. However, the water isn't freezing at all. Jumping from the waterfalls was amazing. The scenery is beautiful. The hike is worth it and it is also very unique to the point where you feel like you're climbing down and up a mountain.

A definite recommend to anyone who has not been to a waterfall and wants a great experience with one.

This was a really great experience. The tour guides were really nice and helpful. To help us get down some rocks and gave us some insight to how to handle the terrain. It truly was beautiful and refreshing to get to the waterfall.

Abel was our tour guide and AMAZING! He made it so much fun and took us cliff jumping, showed us animals and different El Salvadoran plants on the way. He brought snorkeling goggles so we could see under water. Abel took us to get food before hand!! Also he took pictures of us from all different angles, probably the best photographer I’ve met lol!

All seriousness, it was well worth the hike! Probably took 30mins down to the waterfall and a little longer going back up. I would say if you’re out of shape don’t go but don’t need to be a hiker for any means. Going up in the difficult part… not good for kids. I would say if you’re 13 or older it would be fine! Also cost is $10 each but so worth it!

ASK FOR ABEL!

Also our Uber guy took us out there for $18. Went on the hike to the waterfall with us and charged us $18 to ride back to San Salvador! Super cheap, it’s like an hour drive.

Must visit if you are in El Tunco region. Ticket costs 20 usd per group. You don’t need go with a tour group/operator. You can buy the tickets directly at the tourism office and they will assign you a tourist guide. Worthy half day trip :)

The walk back up was level 5, going down is level 1 haha but it was worth it. You have to get a guide to take you down but it worth it.

The waterfalls are really beautiful, you can visit om your own without a guide. The buses go there from El Tunco and afterwards you just need to take a small path close to the cemetery. The road is not marked very well but shortly after a small restaurant you descend downhill towards the river. The waterfall has many levels and is almost a whole day activity.
