Ksar Ouled Soltane

Fun place to be even though I haven't even seen Star Wars, I knew of it but not the storyline. Great place for photography 📸. Free entrance other than local trying to sell arts and so. Support them if you can.

This is one of the coolest Berber grain storage villages that we saw in Tunisia. Many of them are just two floors high, but here at Ksar Ouled Soltane, they are 3 and 4 stories high. There are two sections. When you first walk up you'll be in the first section. There are several buildings that you can climb on and walk up the stairs. There is also a Star Wars-themed cafe but it is very small. Then you'll pass through a door that brings you into a square village, all sides surrounded by these tall grain storage structures. Inside you'll find a few guys selling art. It is totally free to enter and you can walk around and climb the stairs.

Wow! This place is amazing! Very photogenic, and empty! We took a louage from
Tataouine for 2 dinars, and came back by bus for 1.5 dinar. It’s one of my highlights from our trip in Tunisia.

Wonderful Ksar not too far from Tataouine. This doesn’t have the views of Chenini but it is super impressive for how well preserved it is. The style is similar to Hadada but it’s not possible to stay here. There are a few shops selling souvenirs - I recommend the paintings here. They make a great souvenir. This was one of my top three Ksars in southern Tunisia.

Gorgeous landmark, also Star Wars movie set. It was a great experience visiting this place. Unfortunately, not too many tourists you can see, probably because of the distance from famous travel spots... It was totally worth the drive, very relaxing, people were super friendly. The inside coffe shop has a talented artist. He lets you admire his art, and you can buy some too. The other coffee shop has an authentic feeling, and it looks like a beduin cave. Coffee was delicious, the guy was super friendly. Definitely recommend visiting this place if you're in Tunisia. Just rent a car and go. It's a fun drive, and if you're driving a little more south (30-40 minutes), you'll reach the Sahara desert.

Accessible by local louage (2 dinars) that will drop you right outside the site. Louage back is also at the same place. Free entrance. Beautiful Berber village - some three or four storeys high. Some stairs are steep but they are climbable.... Some parts were used in Star Wars set.

Unusually, Ms. Haiba Khalfa is teaching an English lesson today, Saturday, in an open space, at the ancient landmark, the Oulad Sultan Palace of Tataouine. The class was special and included an alternation between learning and playing... He taught the children while they were playing...

It is built of rammed earth, a mixture of raw earth and straw, and has around 400 underground granaries arranged in concentric circles around a central courtyard. By visiting Ksar Ouled Soltane I discovered the architectural heritage of the region, but also lived a unique experience by exploring a place that has been immortalized in one of the greatest films in the history of cinema.
Do not hesitate to visit this incredible place and immerse yourself in the universe of Star Wars in Tunisia!

I really loved this place. The best Ksar around the area. The guy from the cafe shop inside was really nice and friendly. Also, the other guy from the souvenir/paintings (Khalifa) shop was also very friendly and nice. We got one of their beautiful paintings. We had a lovely chat and tea and some sunshine. I highly recommend people to visit this place!

Lovely ksar, you can climb all over ir, I'd like to see more information for tourists.

I this is one of the best place is n the South of Tunisia with Chenini site.
I recommend to visit it.

Ksar Ouled Soltane (Arabic: قصر أولاد سلطان) is a fortified granary, or ksar, located in the Tataouine district in southern Tunisia. The ksar is spread out over two courtyards, each of which has a perimeter of multi-story vaulted granary cellars, or ghorfas. Like other ksour (plural of ksar) built by Berber communities Ksar Ouled Soltane, is located on a hilltop, to help protect it from raiding parties in previous centuries.
Ksar Ouled Soltane is now a tourist destination, with visitors coming to see its well-preserved granary vaults. It was also featured in the film Star Wars : Episode I-The Phantom Menace in some of the scenes used to represent the slave quarters of Mos Espa, where the character AAnakin Skywalker lived as a boy.(Sources:Wikipedia)

we loved the view from the top. if we had more time, we would have visited an oasis around Tozeur as well to make this beautiful desert experience perfect. next time.

Brilliant! Buildings are in amazing condition. It’s a long drive out of the way but worth the effort. And the scenery alone would make the drive worth it.

The site is amazing. Visitors have access to every corner of the site, which is well maintained. YOU MUST eat the mechouia (made while you watch) and grilled lamb from Ezzad Grill... Absolutely delicious.

Atmospheric place. No one else there while we explored this ancient ksar. In a great state of repair, with only a few buildings on the edge which have crumbled away.

Difficult to get to, easier if you have your own car and satnav.

For photography, the best time is in the morning with direct sun on the buildings.

This is a beautiful, fortified, Berber granary. It may look familiar to you as it featured as slave quarters in one of the highest grossing movies of all time, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
