Sun Moon Lake

Sun moon lake is a very leisurely hiking holiday park, beautiful lake and hills. It has a nice sunset scene. I will go there again and stay in the hotel there.

Visited in Nov. 4 different pier stop with each of it's own exhibit. Do plan the time there to avoid overstaying as there is last ferry/boat timing.

Very beautiful lake with lot of things to do along with many awesome trails. There were many easy sightseeing areas to stop or simply enjoy the boat ride around the lake. I've been here more than 50 times but still find new spots. This is a MUST visit if you are in Taiwan.

This is a fun and cool place to be in . It's definitely a great idea to ride bicycle around to explore the area with scenic beautiful scenery . The ferry ride is awesome . Really enjoy staying here.

I participated in a half marathon in the Sun Moon Lake. The view of the lake was amazing. Go jogging around the lake was enjoyable and relaxing. If you have a chance, I highly recommend you to participate in the Sun Moon Lake Marathon in October. I had a great time here.

This place is heavenly. It is very beautiful. Away from the hustle and bustle of citylife. The hotels there are very expensive but the view is super good. The fresh air is abundant. No pollution. Very calm and peaceful. You can go there and do yoga.

The heavy mist shrouded the scene, obscuring the beauty the tour guide so vividly described. Despite the disappointment, the water here is crystal clear, inviting boat rides for those seeking a closer look.

Sun Moon Lake is a stunning and serene lake that offers a great atmosphere. It's an ideal place for a family trip. When we visited in December, we stayed for 5 days and found the area to be quite peaceful, even on weekends. We highly recommend renting an electric bike to explore the surroundings. It's worth noting that there are no currency exchanges nearby, so it's better to bring cash. However, there are ATMs available if you need to withdraw money. The locals are very friendly and welcoming.

After being extremely confused by the bus system in Taichung we still managed to get to Sun Moon Lake by noon. If you purchase a coupon of bus around the lake + cable car + ship then remember to read the map carefully. The ship will take you to 3 places: Shuishe pier, Xiangshan temple and Ita Thao village. We missed the cable car as we didn’t know we have to get on it from Ita Thao then go back to Shuishe by ship. So money for cable car was wasted 😅
Renting a bike/electric bike to go around the lake is a must! Super peaceful. You can park along the way to take picture whenever you feel like 😍

Easily reached from Taichung via bus (approx 2.5hrs). Regular bus links the two towns.

Cycling the bay they say is 30kms, costs 200TWD for the day hire. Took us 6hrs (anticlockwise) with stops at the temples, arts centre and to take photos.
Worth visiting the pagoda for the lake view.

Night market in Ita Thao is also open for lunch. You can hire SUP, kayak or paddle boat.

A nice Place to ride with a Bike around the Sea. But the rent for a Bike is very different. We found directly at Busstation for 150 NT per Day, but directly at the Sea you have a Rent begins with 150 NT per Hour. A musthave to see this Place!

One of my favorite places on earth. No matter what time of the year, it’s bliss here. The weather may be a tad too hot and humid yet I love waking up super early to catch the sunrise, hiking at sunset and soaking in the views 🥰

Great place with lots of places to take photos. Unusual weather, cold wind but hot sun. Famous tea eggs on one of the sides as well.

Really peaceful scenery, especially in the early morning. Comfortable weather and fascinating landscape. There are many boat tours you can take to explore the lake. Highly recommended!

Fun place! We rented bikes and rode around half the lake before taking the ferry back to where we started. Some places along the route can get quite steep, but it balances out with the scenery and downhill slopes in between. Worth the trip!

Sun moon lake, the most gorgeous and peaceful place you should visit in Taiwan.
It is in the foothills of Taiwan’s Central Mountain Range. It’s surrounded by forested peaks and has foot trails. East of the lake, the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village is a theme park with a section devoted to re-created indigenous villages.
There’s a 33km path for a walk and cycling.

Beautiful, scenic place. Best to avail the sun moon lake pass which you may use as tickets in getting around the area. There are also many places to see, and not crowded.

Rent a bike, bike around the lake, stop at the visitor’s center. This is the best sunny day activity! Difficulty: 3 out of 10
Some people rent electric bikes because of a few small hills.
