Enjoyed the most amazing dinner at Furaha tonight! Out of all the places we ate in Zanzibar this was the most authentic and delicious. We came to see Iddy after a day at the beach and he cooked the most amazing tuna and selection of seafood for us.

Iddy is super kind and I would 100% recommend if you are staying near the area!

If you can, ask your taxi driver know to give them a call in advance so they can get the kitchen ready for you.

Furaha is not another beach restaurant.
It is located on a village square in Matemwe, next to a well, where the villagers pass by to get their water.
What makes the difference to the beach restaurants is the quality of the meals.
For a very low price you get a taste of the local kitchen, far much better than most of the places on the beach.
The service is great. Just make sure you bring enough time, cause everything is a bit „pole pole“. No alcohol being served,
but trust me, you will not regret a visit at Furaha.

Excellent, fresh food (from just fished tuna to beef and chicken), cheap prices (12-15,000 shillings per person) and kind owner who also offer taxi transfers and excursions (about half the price of hotels).
Please do not hesitate to go this place, especially if you want to support local community who hardly benefits from tourism otherwise.
You can order by WhatsApp before going there as service can take some time.

Amazing experience. The owner is very friendly and helpful, the food was incredible and much better than anything I had in Zanzibar. The restaurant is clean, hidden in a village just off the beach. We walked there for an hour and half in the heat and it was totally worth it! Anyone who wants "authentic", tasty meal, it's a must visit.

Really enjoyed eating here (we came three times). Our favourite place to eat in Matemwe. Food was consistently tasty with good portions and value. All freshly prepared to order so there is a wait, but you can order in advance or sit back and enjoy great hospitality - Simba sat with us each night to teach us Bao which was fantastic. Thank you to Iddy, Simba, and Kocha. Fully recommend.

A very good local food restorant! Plates are very delicious, the fish is really fresh! It is a little restorant into the village. The boys are very kind and give you honest information and support! Really recommended!

One of the best meals I had on this island. The fish was delicious and rice out of this world. It's a hidden gem tucked away in Matenwe village and highly recommend people to go there.

Don't be affraid of the looking of this place. Food is fresh and very good. Portions are big, prices are so good compared with resort restaurants and other types. I can say that it was a great experience and i recommend with pleasure.

Really nice food and great quality/price relation. The menu doesn’t have prices, but we paid 30.000 Tz for two (quite big) main courses and drinks. They don’t serve alcohol though, and it takes some time before being served (like elsewhere in Zanzibar, in my experience)

My wife and I were walking on the beach when we saw a nice and friendly boy advertising a new local restaurant, so we deceided to have a look. The location is very good because it is near to the beach and at the same time you can enjoy the atmosphere of the village and interact with local people. The food was great and traditional, and the service was amazing. You also could take the opportunity while waiting for the food, to play some local games. We highly recommend the place to anyone visiting Matemwe. Best regards to the guys working at the restaurant. Hope to see you again. We wish you all the best!

It’s a bit hidden but so worth it when you find it. It was first empty when we arrived at lunch time but we were then greeted by the Chef. We ordered the grilled octopus and snapper. It was delicious and so fresh. While we were waiting Simba approached us and explained a bit about their business and also told us that he just caught the octopus. It tasted exactly like that. Definitely recommend to go there!

Talk to the guys - they are very welcoming and share lots of stories. They also do tours and get you taxis! All tried and tested! Karibu xx

This local restaurant is absolutely delicious. The fish and octopus are very fresh, ocra salad combined very well, but most importantly the service is fantastic. The chef is very knowledgeable and helpful. Can't wait to go back

We went to Furaha for a dinner and we didn't leave the place disappointed.
The food was fresh and tasted good and the portions were big enough to ease our appetites.
The waiter was also very kind. He sat with us and we had a nice talk till our food arrived.
It was a really nice evening and a great experience!
Definitely recommended!

Some of the tastiest food I’ve had in Zanzibar, and we tried a lot of different local places and hotels as well! The food is very tasty and well seasoned, it also costs less than the food available at the hotels nearby which in my opinion were quite average. Food is super fresh, usually fish / seafood caught nearby. You can order via WhatsApp as service can take a while and if you want something special, you can tell them with some time in advance and they will accommodate - we pre-ordered a whole fried fish once and it was delicious. Service is great, always with a smile on the face! We really enjoyed going to the restaurant, having a great meal and looking at the kids nearby playing - such a calm and welcoming community!

They prepare everything freshly. We had the beans and the spinach, both very tasty! I am still wondering which spices they use since it was so delicious.

And: The people there are so friendly, we had a good chat with the guys. I recommend this place to everyone who wants to try good local food 🙌.
